If the exact (mechanical, electrical, performance, etc.etc.) MB you own had a Chevy bowtie on the hood, would you have purchased it?

We are getting into hypotheticals here. Virtually every one here knows they are paying extra for that 3 pointed star. Perhaps I would have purchased it. If it was at least $10k less.

Hypotheticals are a part of everyday life
$10k more just to have a 3 pointed star over an equal to or better vehicle (in just my opinion) is, is, is, well........I'll just leave it at as " to each his own". Visual brand preception is a poweful marketing tool.

I’ve never owned a Mercedes before. I’m getting a Mercedes because I want a nice convertible. Unless I want a mustang or camaro or a Mazda. The only choices are Mercedes,Audi or BMW. People all the time pay more for a Cadillac SUV versus a Chevy or GMC. These are basically the same internals. Just the externals are different. The name is part of what you pay for.

I totally respect your opinion. But.....I personally did not just recently purchase my first two German cars because they had a Mercedes-Benz and BMW badge on the hood. It was strictly for the fit, finish, styling, technology, performance, etc., etc., etc. that other manufacturers do not offer. The badge had nothing, zip, zero to do with it. Personally, I wish both of my two new crossovers were made by Ford or Chevy but, they choose not to build performance luxury on par with the German cars.

It’s really difficult to have this discussion on a Mercedes forum. Whether you like it or not, you are paying something for the name.

I'm 50-50 on it since I'd still have the 6" or so thing on the front grille.

Of course the name is part of what you pay for! It's like buying Boars Head or the shatty store brand.

Is there another forum more appropriate to discuss a Mercedes badge than on a Mercedes forum? I knew the MB & BMW badge was going to cost me. It's part of the
"Ultimate Driving Machine" and "The Best or Nothing" experience.!!!

I was just talking about the fact that the Mercedes name doesn’t mean anything on a Mercedes forum.

I did too for the refinement and luxury but, not for the pure driving excitement. That is why I also own a BMW.

I owned a BMW. Mercedes is much more fun to drive for me. Also these AMG beasts makes the ride even more exciting.

I really wanted to purchase the GLC AMG 43 SUV. I test drove one three different times trying to convince myself it was what I wanted because of the Interior being superior to its BMW equivalent the
X3 M40i. The AMG ride was way too rough even in comfort mode, had too much turbo lag, and the trany was not as refined as the ZF8 trany in the BMW X3 M40i.

I dont know about SUVs. If I had the choice, I wil grap a C63s AMG with my eyes closed. Btw i have seen a YouTube drag race where GLC 43 beated a X4 M40i. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I also like the clean look and have debadged before. On this car, being a 4Matic and having badges on both sides, I'm okay with it (for now). If it had only a badge on the left, I probably would have removed it to fix the balance.

As an example how removing "some things" can really clean up the lines and overall look of the car; I bought a new GTO in 2006. One of the first things I did to it is remove the trunk badges and the goofy rear spoiler (my opinion). Had all the holes welded up and trunk repainted. At the time on the GTO forums, there were plenty of people with comments like "Why would you remove factory installed things?", "Why destroy a new car?", "Why take off the badges, now you look like you're driving a Chevy Cavalier". <--- Okay, that one was funny, lol.

All a matter of opinion. I thought it looked freaking awesome and I made it the car I wanted to look at. Is one right and not the other? I believe I was right because I was the one making the payments.

Damn that's a nice clean look I probably wouldn't even know what model/brand that was if I were driving behind it

For me, if I'm going to pay the kind of money MB charges for its vehicles, I for sure want people to know what I spent my money on. Just my 2 cents.
