Column Shifter wont go into Park (unless I jam the button)

Hi Folks,
When I park my C350e car and push the park button on the column shifter...I really have to push hard before it goes into park.
Alternatively, if I open the door it goes into park automatically
I think this is a new problem, as I never noticed it till recently...and I read somewhere this is an easy dealer fix with shifter calibration
For background...my 2016 C350e, M274 with 25K and in Dec 20 had the parking pawl (in the transmission) replaced under warranty...not sure if this has anything to do with this problem.
Since I am no longer under warranty I am hoping someone here has experienced something similar...
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry about your problem. I don't have problem like you with gear selector stalk, but I don't remember ever using it to park. I just open the door after turning off the engine and car switches to park and engages parking brakes. Been doing that since for last 10 years on all Benz I owned. Only used the gear selector stalk to put the car in R or D. I may have pressed P to park few times a year just to see if it works or not.

Honestly, I would just use the door to put the car in P after turning off the car if P button is wonky.

Thanks for the advice...unfortunately I am not sure that procedure will work for the wife but worth a try
I think I will have no choice but to take it to the dealer and get an estimate.

Just a quick update for the benefit of the forum...It was the column shifter that was diagnosed as faulty (~4+ yrs old)

@27K miles C350e I took it to the local Mercedes stealer and explained the issue of the park button nearly impossible to push to park, without significant pressure.
Secondarily, I had what I thought was a burnt oil smell coming from the drivers side engine firewall...which was covered by the recent extended warranty fix (10yrs 100K).

For the stalk, I was hoping this was as simple as a calibration of the stalk, instead, as it turns out it was that the entire column shifter that was diagnosed as the failure piece.
$600 Labor + $500 in parts + Tax (of which $250 would've been diagnostic fees for no repair). They had plenty of these column shifter modules in stock, which was not something I expected, so wonder if others have had the stalk failure issue.

I reviewed several videos on DIY for column shifter replacement, which no doubt would've saved me money...but without a garage and concern about removing the steering wheel, airbag and potential recalibration, I let them do it. Ugh.

Secondarily, they did find the fuel leak on both hoses into the high pressure pump. I assume one is High Pressure and One is Low pressure ...the warranty extension was specifically for the low pressure hose...but hopefully this fixes the smell issue.

Thanks for listening and all of the advice
