I have a really annoying rattle that is coming from the overhead compartment of my 2019 C300. The rattle sounds like some kind of small motor vibrating against plastic. The rattle usually starts when I open the door (car does not have to be on for rattle to start). Below are some bullet points of what I've experienced.
- Rattle starts upon entering the car
- Rattle is the loudest in the mornings
- When rattle starts, it last about 5-10 minutes, and it gets progressively quieter as time goes one until it's almost not audible or completely gone.
I've also included a short video of the rattle. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I've taken it to the dealer but they won't do anything about it as the rattle is completely gone by the time i get there. Thanks
Thanks for the reply... I figured out the issue of the overhead rattle. I took the two grills adjacent to the sunroof button off and found a small fan that turns on when I get in the car (not sure what the fan is for). There's a small antenna looking thing projecting over the fan that was coming into contact with a plastic bar. I pulled the piece back and the rattle is gone. I've attached a picture for reference.
Mine rattles from the same spot and the dealer has replaced the overhead console 3x trying to fix it but the rattle always comes back. How did you pull down the grills?
I just followed the video that benzdude posted above. Once you remove and unplug the overhead compartment you'll see the small tabs to remove the grills. Good luck
Thanks for this...this rattle has been driving me NUTS...it's actually the only consistent rattle I hear besides an intermittent dashboard knock. Lately, I've also been hearing those fans make really loud whirring noises when the door is opened before the car starts. I think the fans are something something related to the climate control because I could hear the A/C motor behind the dash adjust itself when the loud fans start.

I had to insert a tiny rubber pad to prevent dashboard making contact with the windshield at the corner, on the passenger side.
WIth the car off and door closed, hit the top of your steering wheel (with the flat of your hand) and listen for vibration and noise.
