Cabling loop broke - Convertible

Hi all,
During the course of closing the top, a pop was heard and when we inspected, we saw that the hoop broke. We have no clue how this could have happened. Top still closes and opens so there is no problem with the mechanics. We have an appointment with the dealer to get a baseline cost. Our warranty has expired and the extended warranties offered, do not cover the soft top/convertible. Just checking to see if anyone has ever encountered and if so, what should I expect will be the cause of repair? Thank you all.
