Fuel cap tether is detached from car

Hi all,

I went to fill up today and when I opened the gas cap, it just fell off - the tether rope/cable got detached from the car. I’m not sure if some piece fell off or if it can be put back in, but I haven’t been able to do so.
Anyone have any idea how to fix?

I can place the cap on the fuel cap cover. See if you can do the same and get rid of the tether.

Says the person on here posting stuff like this acting like it’s trying to figure out the square root of pi lol. And now the insults…Pathetic. I don’t need to say anything more. You’ve painted a perfect enough picture yourself.

“square root of pie” = asking how to re attach a tether to a car
yes of course. I guess math and reading are hard skills to get
at the end of the day you’re a grown man looking at posts on forums and trying to be condescending and sassy like a 16 year old teenage girl. The only clear picture here is yours. Pathetic

I vote to drop the negativity and pretend this thread did not get crapped on.

It was implied the solution to this problem is common knowledge. Must not be that common, as I had no idea either.

I went out and looked at mine to see (looks like I need to replace my tether cable, as it looks pretty ragged, lol).

It attaches to the hinge side, clipped into a keyhole in the plastic...

Definitely not obvious.
That's interesting.. can't help to think it looks different from mine. Maybe because it's a C300 coupe? Either that or there was a whole piece that fell off. Thanks for checking by the way!

I have a W205. If you have a C205, maybe try in that forum.

So there's no keyhole receptacle in your fuel filler door hinge?

There is a place on the door to place the fuel cap so why do you need this tether. Mine is W205 German built and it doesn't have a tether but it has a place where i can hang it on the door.

i guess you’re right. It’s not technically needed. I guess it’s just a little scary when something falls off like that.
i didn’t know German built cars didn’t have one. My C300 coupe was built in Germany.

Hey, wanted to tell you that you were 100% right. I was looking at the hole on the left, when in reality it was the one you pointed out. Nothing broken after all. Thank you!
I guess I was caught off guard by that hole on the left of the fuel cap... with those exposed prongs. Kind of surprised they left it like that.

Awesome, glad to hear it!

You're very welcome. The components opposite the hinge are the catch and release for the door.

Glad all is well.
