Oil in wiring Harness C180 petrol 156 BHP

HELP and HELLO

My wifes car recently W205 2014 1.6 156 BHP petrol 130000 kms around 80000 miles has recently developed a strange fault....she drove it the other day and the temp guage was showing maximum....no alarm on dash etc. She stopped and had it towed to the mercedes Dealer( I was away on business)

They came back saying that their is oil in the wiring harness that has affected the temperature sender, the oil is coming from the cam sensor.

They produced a quote for 3800 euros to replace the can sensor water temperature sensor and wiring harness.

We cant afford this so i was looking to replacing these items myself ( Im pretty handy with on the tools ) Has anyone else heard of this problem on the 205, I know its a problem on plenty of cars.

The question is will a good clean help and how does one get rid of the wiring harness problem?

Thanks for all help and any Tutos on the cam sensor replacement/ temperature sensor I think their is 2 on this car?

MANY THANKS again

1. replace cam position sensors and cam magnets.
2. possibly also replace the temperature sender (sensor)
3. clean the harness connectors at the sensors and magnets with CRC spray contact cleaner or equivalent
4. clean the ECU connectors (both sides) with CRC.

This should give a temporary, possibly permanent, solution. It depends how much oil saturated the harness. If the harness is thoroughly saturated it needs to be replaced.

Update

got the car home cleaned up all the visible connectors……couldnt see any oil in any of them, popped the 2 ecu connectors of and their was a slight film on the socket.i cleqned them with ccf and blew compressed air over the connections.

Car starts perfectly no engine management light nothing runs like a dream.

the only thing i noticed was the temp reading was in the middle of its reading leading to me to think the sensor for the temp.

any ideas where the temps sensors are?.
