Exhaust Temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 1

Exhaust Temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 1
Hi Guys, I have a c220 cdi with a engine light up, diagnostics throw up a code saying P2080 suggesting that it's the exhaust temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 1, I've had a quick look and have brought a new sensor.
I'm curious to know as the sensor has a notch, is this just because its a metric thread or a reverse thread ?
as its the only sensor with a male insert.
Also with this sensor going does it reduce engine performance and how smooth the gearbox would function as they both seem to have gone awall after the light coming up.
