Can Improper Tow Damage EIS?
Long story short I had an apartment complex property manager call a towing company to tow my 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 because he claims I was double parked in a spot although it was barely encroaching and it was very petty of him to say the least.
Luckily my friend looked outside his window and saw the tow truck as he had it on the wrecker and I went out to confront him to put my vehicle down. I paid him $65 to drop the car but not before he actually moved the vehicle a few feet as it went from being straight to parked in two spots diagonally. The wrecker had a dolly and was trying to tow from the rear end.
After he left, I went back in my vehicle to reposition my car and the car would not crank and the steering column was locked up and I was unable to put the car in neutral while the key was in the ignition. It was completely frozen.
I called the tow company and made them aware of the situation. Previous to them attempting to tow my car everything operated fine and the car was running great.
My car is now at the MB dealership and they think it’s the EIS that needs to be replaced and it’s going to cost me nearly $2,000 for the tow, diagnosis and repair. I am furious and want to hold the tow company accountable and take them to small claims court as I believe it was caused by the wrecker triggering the anti theft system and damaging the EIS. I am collecting all of the documentation on what happened to prepare to hold them accountable if indeed they did cause the damage.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do in my situation and if it was the tow truck drivers error for improperly towing my vehicle that caused the EIS to go bad or was this all just a coincidence. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
The W204s are (in)famous for EIS going bad and towing would have done nothing to make it happen, you just got an unlucky coincidence.
And considering you've added pictures I take it you want our input on your parking job, the property manager might have been a bit of a dick to go straight to towing but you left so much space on one side the bike to the right of you could've easily fit in there.
