C400 $12,000 FIX ??? NEED HELP
I have a 2015 C400 that has 68,000 miles on it. The car has a terrible start up noise that sounds like banging in the engine with no check engine light on. The car drive perfectly fine, I can drive in all the sport modes and there is no knocking whatsoever but it’s the start up that sounds awful! I take it to the shop and they say to ‘replace camshaft adjusters on bank 1 and check camshafts while cylinder head cover removed’ and the total of that was $11,693.10. How in the world is this noise a $12,000 fix. There is no check engine light and the car drives fine. Is it a different part that is messed up and am I being ripped off with this pricing?!? Need help

It they need to change the Camshaft Adjusters they need to open the whole top of the engine. You should take it to MB and see what they say about this problem and get a price to fix it.

START UP THIS MORNING
Like this morning I started it and no rattle. Is it actually the camshaft adjusters ? This car is really throwing me off and it’s stressful. And does anyone know will Mercedes replace these camshaft adjusters under warranty ?

That is very likely the issue, you can find youtube videos with the same noise to confirm.
$12,000 is too much, find a reliable independent shop familiar with German cars. Likely you'll see $1-4k range.

Yeah I’ve found YouTube videos with the same noise that’s exactly what it sounds like but why would it go away some starts ? Okay glad to know that I’m right about how high they’re charging. I’m located in Southern California and will be in Phoenix, Arizona with the car tonight. If anyone knows where a reliable shop is please leave one, thank you.
