boot not opening automatically

I have a W205 C350e, and although I can unlock and lock the trunk, I have to manually open it by pressing the trunk button and lifting it, then pushing it down to close it. It should be operating automatically. I think the issue arose because my family did not realize it opened automatically and tried to close it forcefully. Does anyone know how to fix this?

When you push the button what does the car do? Where are two buttons, one used to open and close but also set the height, and the other is to close and lock the car at the same time. You should also check the fuse in the trunk.

In my experience watching someone push it shut is painful and annoying but never affected the mechanism.

Agreed. The components are designed to slip if someone closes it manually so it doesn't damage anything. Closing the trunk by hand will not break or hurt anything.

If you think about it, it would be extremely poor engineering to make a trunk mechanism that could fail by closing it manually and there would be countless broken trunk mechanisms everywhere across multiple manufacturers.
