Hello guys, I’m here to get some help from you guys since you guys are the professionals. So I’ve been looking into buying a car and came across this c200 with 167650km on it. It’s a 2015 model and the engine code is M274DE20AL. Is there any reg flags I should look for? I’m gonna post some stats and pics of the car, I mean it looks really nice and I’ve had other family members who’ve had the same cars for more than +250000km running just fine but idk I’m new to Mercedes and all that.
buying it from the dealer and have asked for the service history, idk when they’ll send it but yeah.
M274 engines are known to have cracked pistons due to failing wrist pins. It affects C Class, E Class and GLCs equally. If the seller is an MB dealer giving you certified pre owned warranty, go for it. Otherwise buyer beware.
Check your VIN using mbdecoder.com - full details of the spec are listed there, I just looked.
DELETED reference to Swedish market, now that I see the registration in the first photo!
The seven speed gearbox does not have as favourable reviews as the nine speed - I have seen several comments on the forums here that the shifting is not as smooth.
Legit what I also looked at, 6 of them are basically car dealerships but looking at the full history, none of the buyers kept the car for more than a couple of months before selling it🤷🏽
did some digging and found the last 2 owners and texted them to see if there was something wrong with it and how they treated the car, not having high hopes tho😅
Another 274 engine problem: Car is 2019C300 4MATIC with 51,200miles. Just had a major repair of the engine to replace the "Directional Oil Valve". I think it's in/near the oil pump. The Check Engine Light came on solid, and I took it to dealer right away. They had to disassemble nearly the entire front end: frame, suspension, steering, axles, engine mounts, ... I purchased the car on 12/07/22 and bought the extra 2 years of warranty for $2745. This repair would have been about $3,100 if I had not bought the extended warranty.
If you like the W205, I'd wait until I found a 6 cylinder version. Here's some data from Wiki:
