I am getting an error after accidentally turning the steering wheel too far after failing to realized the steering shaft was disconnected. Now i get "The squib for the driver airbag (stage1) has a malfunction. There is an open circuit. Also for stage 2. I checked the values over on the SRS via a scanner and from a range of [2.5...6.1] both are marking as 255 and in red. "Resistance value of ignition circuit with 'ZB714 (Driver airbag squib 1) same for squib 2.

What can i do here? I am a bit lost in terms of properly diagnosing this issue. If anyone could provide some help i would really appreciate it.

unfortunately there’s a good possibility that you damaged the clockspring and will need to replace it. Once you turn it too far it looses position and unravels itself

Thats what i was thinking, should all pins on the two connectors facing the front of the clockspring have continuity towards the back connector? I tried and only 3 pins have continuity but the others don't.

Edit: Worth mentioning too that when i turned too far i did hear a sort of crunch or clicking very briefly. Could that have been the issue when turning it too far it unraveled it damaging and losing continuity on some pins on the connector and now the airbag itself is throwing that code for it is receiving a proper connectivity.

Edit 2: Wouldn't the clockspring unraveling also affect the steering angle sensor? i was able to clear that code just fine when it came up. Just wondering.

the crunching sound you heard was the coil unraveling itself.
as for the other issues i cant say for sure. when i damaged mine i had a spare replacement on the spare parts shelf so i didnt go very far into diagnostics.
ebay should have the entire clockspring for fairly cheap
