Strong Gas smell inside car (whats the issue?)

Hello there I have a 2016 W205 C300 we recently purchased 6 months ago. There is a strong gas smell coming from the car and you can smell inside the car. Id like to take it to the mechanic (not dealership) and be able to tell them what to fix so that I dont have to pay for a bunch of things that aren't the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction or know the cause so I can articulate this to my mechanic effectively and I can get it solved. It has gotten worse in recent month probably due to drop in temperature. I have seen similar posts about this but cant seem to find them anymore.

You have a leak in the fuel system somewhere. Nobody can tell you where it is w/o looking for it. Could be leaking fuel injectors, a fuel line, fuel pump or as simple as the gas cap not sealing properly, but the latter normally triggers a check engine light. A mechanic will know how to trace the leak.

Well, ya! Fuel vapors aren't exactly healthy and they are flammable, so don't park indoors for example. And if fuel leaks onto the hot exhaust or hot engine, it can ignite and cause a fire.

Yikes, this has been going on for a while albeit last time the mechanic checked the whole car said everything was in good working order.

While there wasn't a full recall, it's a known issue and Mercedes has extended the warranty on the problematic fuel lines. Trouble is, the dealer will charge you a few hundred for the diagnosis -- which you'll be out of pocket if it's a source outside of the warranty extenion.

2017 C300 4matic
Mercedes Benz extended the warranty to 10 years/120k miles for this issue. See this here. Print it off and take it to your dealer. They will fix it free of charge as long as you're within the 10yr/120k. I had this problem and they fixed it for free. I'm not the original owner of my 2017 C300 4matic and its covered whether you're the original owner or not.
