I saw a person driving their Benz on Youtube and while they were driving that notice came up. If was sunny and they didn't know why it came up and started laughing.
How much do they charge for this subscription I liked the good old days when there was a weather button, not some sort of nanny built by a 12 year-old engineer with ai.

Interesting, guess I am the only one that never saw this message.
Yes I have SirusXM as well but never seen this message, on any MBs we have actually.
The reason I asked is that Syrius is being used more than ever as a data channel and thought it could be a source but more research led me to Mbux subscriptions include weather information.

I think it’s tied to some government service. I don’t have an active MBrace. I do notice Sirius is on although I haven’t paid for a service. LOL. It keeps happening. I guess I’ll enjoy the Sat service.

Yep, this is tied to SiriusXM Weather in the older models that get live traffic through SiriusXM. On-screen severe weather alerts is one of the features. SiriusXM periodically runs free service for a few days, so even if you don't have an active subscription, you suddenly receive live traffic and weather alerts. They are doing this to entice people to sign up if they like what they see. I'm guessing in this case it has the opposite effect . More likely, though, given that it appears they are erroneous, SiriusXM probably has a system issue on their end sending out wrong alerts.

Occasionally, they push a free 7 day trial, it is very random, for example, mine randomly started showing traffic again since yesterday. Did not renew or subscribe anything. Dealerships also might partner with SirusXM and offer a free trial after a service visit.

I don't use sirusxm like ever, every new vehicle with the free 3 month trial, I never end up using. Maybe I am not into satellite radio. The new MBs probably use here or MB their own traffic system.

Yes, in the current models roughly as of 2019 (before that for the W213 etc.). SiriusXM is just satellite radio. The other services SiriusXM offers have been replaced with online versions over the car's data connection. I used to subscribe to SiriusXM and my previous car used it for live traffic as well. The nice thing is that it essentially has no dead zones, other than tunnels I suppose. I liked satellite radio, because I could listen to my favorite station on any road trip regardless of where I was, and in my previous car I had live traffic in areas that don't have cellular coverage. So there are advantages and disadvantages. I did eventually cancel my SiriusXM subscription during the pandemic as I was paying for something I barely used. Much of that can be said about my Mercedes me subscription as well with the amount of driving I do these days. I recently did my first long road trip since the pandemic and I have to say I missed satellite radio on that trip as we kept having to scan for some decent station in the middle of nowhere. If there's cellular service then I just listen to Pandora usually, but my wife and I have different music tastes. She complains about my Pandora channels...haha, so we made due with terrestrial radio.

When I hear radio, I think of static, ads which satellite radio doesn't have. Wouldn't it be nice (in your case) you can just buy a day pass and pay per use? I imagine that won't make the company enough money to maintain the servers and well, the satellites. Do they own the satellites or they partner with someone?

What I've done in the past is threaten to cancel my subscription shortly before it came up for renewal, which then unlocked customer retention promotions, so if you keep doing that you can get their service fairly cheap. I think I paid less than $5/month so it wasn't that much. Static is essentially an artifact of the past before digital radio. Even terrestrial radio now has HD Radio, which is fully digital. This is actually part of why I ended up cancelling. The sound quality of SiriusXM isn't actually that great. It's highly compressed.
Yes, it's their satellites. Well, combined with the former XM satellites. Remember, Sirius and XM used to be two separate companies before Sirius acquired XM. Today's receivers support both satellite systems. I don't know if they unified the technology in the meantime, but Sirius and XM weren't compatible with each other, so after the merger, older cars which either had a Sirius or an XM receiver were stuck with only receiving a subset of the channels. They must still be supporting old receivers, so I'm guessing their are still sending out the old XM signals.
