Anyone hit 40 mpg yet?

Hi! My car has not arrived yet but I will be trading in my 2020 330i. On Eco mode I consistently get around 42mpg at 75 mph with the BMW. since EPA rates both the C300 and the 330i very similarly, I'm curious if owners here are able to reach 40mpg in eco mode?

Thank you!

I have not. After a five hour trip with distronic on the whole way (no traffic) got around 35-37mpg. Never hit 40 but I only rely on the instrument cluster.

Exactly. Never rely on the computer. The real mpg it’s done filling the tank to the top, reset the trip, and next time you fill to the top divide the miles driven by the gallons you just filled.

Actually, yes, on my last drive home from work. I drive 130 miles with speed limits that range from 55 - 70 mph. I regularly get mid to high 30's but on my last drive I looked down as I got close to the end and it said 40.1 mpg.

Of course, I don't expect any of you to believe me, but I'll be doing the drive again in a few days and I'm going to pay attention this time and take a pic if I hit it again.

Not quite.
On a 75-mile drive with speed limits from 55 to 70, and occasional traffic slows, I’m consistently getting mid/upper 30s. Best was 38.6. Comfort mode and not using Distronic.

38.6 mpg using comfort mode is very good! so 40mpg with eco mode might be achievable.

43.8 MPG*

Note the asterisk.

On my latest drive to work, after a stopover at Cedar Point, I attempted a high MPG readout. A few things to point out:
1) 2022 C300 AMG line
2) Comfort Mode. Eco does nothing.
3) Air conditioning was on, it was hot and humid.
4) I reset the display only once I got on the highway and up to speed.
5) While I didn't "Hypermile" (because **** hypermilers) I was very deliberate in my actions. I used cruise control in gradual 1 mph increments as much as I could. I did not make aggressive maneuvers, but went with the flow of traffic rather than passing, changing lanes, etc.
6) It's all highway driving with a mix of 65mph, 55 mph, 60 mph, 70 mph speed limits.
7) It's flat as a board.

Here is my route that I measured: (93 miles from entering the highway to Detroit Metro Airport)

Leaving Sandusky, the speed limit is 65 for about 20 miles or so. It then drops to 55 for another 35 miles. I did exactly 55 because I was behind a truck doing the same and it's single lane here. (No aggressive passing, remember?) Going through Toledo is 60mph (I probably was doing around 65.) Once I hit Michigan the speed limit is 70 but due to traffic and construction my average speed was slower for a bit.

About 10 miles into Michigan I stopped to pee and here was my readout:

You can see my average speed is pretty low, hence the high MPG number.

For the last 30 miles, I actually did a steady 70-74 mph. This caused the average MPG to noticeably drop. Here is when I pulled into the employee parking lot at Detroit Metro Airport:

So yeah, I got an impressive number, but I think it definitely needs an asterisk. I'm sure If I took the Ohio Turnpike at a steady 74 mph, where I usually set cruise, the number would be a lot lower.

Maybe I'll do that on the drive home in a few days if one of y'all wants to spot me $3.50 for "research purposes." Hahahaha.

You know, now that you mention it, I do seem to remember at one point on the freeway the RPMs dropping to zero that one time I used ECO. Then I read somewhere else that Eco doesn't do much and just never bothered switching. TBH, I never switch the mode from C, where it defaults on every startup. I've never been in a situation yet where I felt I needed Sport, because I haven't done too much straight pleasure driving in the Benz. (I have a 1965 Impala convertible for that!)

Here is my results.
Louisiana to Mississippi driving.
Eco mode, adaptive cruise, mostly Highway and Interstate. A/C ON all the time (93 degrees and 97 percent humidity)
Some traffic in the New Orleans area.
I did not drive too conservative but never more than 10 mph over the speed limit (Louisiana doesn't drive speed limit...lol)
