Is this common? (tire issue)
I picked up a nail and took the car in to have it looked at. (2k miles) I have the MB wheel and tire protection package Tier 3 and they tried to charge my wife for a whole new tire. to the tune of $541. My questions are the following:
Why is MB replacing a whole tire for a small puncture in the center of the tread?
Why attempt to sell a whole tire?
Discount tire would have fixed the puncture for about 20$

In the side case, it was a large hole so type couldn't be repaired in my case.
But in regular puncture in middle of typer, fixing was quick and cheap.

Well it did, but only after the wife pretty much went mental on them. That protection package is good for 60 months. They tried to bill her upfront. I was just shocked they would replace a whole tire for a small nail. it seems cost prohibitive.

Since you took it straight to the dealer, I’m not surprised they immediately replaced the run flat to bill the part. But its shocking how they tried to deny coverage you purchased. Sad how dealerships (especially their service departments) have turned to squeezing every last penny they can from customers.
Always take it to a local repair shop if you can, I’ve have the worst experiences only at “authorized” service centers :/
