10k Mile Service - Tires
Hi all,
'23 C300 4MATIC AMG Line here. At our 10k mile service today it was reported that the two rear tires are wearing down (as low as 5/32 - 7/32), especially on the outside edges - an alignment is being done. The service advisor also let us know that these tires typically have a life of about 18k miles and that they're about $400 each to replace - this sounds awful to me.
I know these tires are "low noise" because of the foam inserts (not sure the exact terminology here). Are there non-original tires that would be a good fit here and still be lower-noise? Your opinions welcome!

Mine are staggered (so no rotation). Alignment has been done, which should help. I'm really just asking if anyone has replaced these tires with non-original ones that were reasonably quiet.

I have 16,500 and my tires are @ 6/32” wear. In looking, the Bridgestone LS100MOE Runflats start with 9/32” (instead of the normal 10/32”). Given that, I’m a little less concerned about the wear, but they have a wear rating of 560 and the “non Mercedes” RFT version of the tire has a 50,000 mi warranty. So - I think that they are wearing faster and plan to ask the dealer. In looking at Tire Rack - the price for 4 is $1200. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...#TabbedPanels2

Can you see the wear bars on your rear tires? If you can see them and can feel them the rubber is fine. Never buy/talk about tires at a dealer. Try Discount Tire if you have one in your area and try to rotate every 5K miles. Sounds like they got you for an alignment which you more than likely did not need in the first place. The dealers use scare tactics every chance they get to scare you into spending more money. If your tires are not living up to their warranty miles then get prorated pricing when you get new ones.

Im at 18,000 miles with the original tires and still some thread left. I only balanced the wheels at 15,000 because I started feeling a vibration at certain speeds.
I’ll be looking forward for your feedback on the pirelli.

I'm guessing we'll pull the trigger on these later this year.

Tires wear
The C43 Rear tires turn 2Deg. May this contribute to faster wear out, especially on one side? That's crazy, not even a 20K and must start looking for new tires, this will be a yearly activity..

5/32 to 7/32 is hardly reason to panic since the new thickness was likely 10/32. The wear bars are usually at 2/32, and when you get there you definitely want to start shopping. Independent tire dealers are a better route than car dealerships for price, selection and expertise. And many tire shops do free balance/rotation every 5K, and fix flats free.

After speaking to several tire companies, an apparent rule of thumb (on run flats) on a staggered setup you can expect to use two sets of rears to a single set of fronts. I just replaced both my rears with non-run flats the Michelin PS4s for about 750 for the set with full replacement. when my wheel warranty runs our I will be looking to move to a std set of 18s on a std setup to allow for full rotation.

Yes todays models there is no longer Camber to adjust tire contact angles / spread load more evenly (new car industries best kept secret).
The often quoted reassuring “Will carry out a full Front and Rear ‘4’ Wheel Alignment” is in actual fact adjusting only the basic toe (directional adjustment) !
All to do with cost cutting and the ever increasing speed of new car assembly lines.
Now only the one front and rear “Showroom Height Camber Setting” - no longer able to compensate for high cambered roads with excess passengers side edge wear. Curb knock damage, different ride height through load carrying or lowering, fitting wide profile tires.
THE ONUS “BACK ON OWNERS” - TO PREMATURELY FUND NEW TIRES.
FOR THE W206 C CLASS we saw the need and manufacture a “Bolt-On” rear Camber adjustment kit.
Fit without need for special tools or time consuming arm removal. Unique K-MAC patented design allows easily accessible precise single wrench adjustment. ULTIMATE - direct on Alignment rack UNDER LOAD
#503126 $480 DHL Express air worldwide $40.

Interesting you say that. The tires on my care hit the 20k mark and I was told I need new tires. Just spent $1400 on new times from Costco that have a 45k tread warranty on them. Amazing how bad Mercedes is getting over the years. They are losing quality all over the place and trying to just pump out cars instead of caring like they used to. My back in the day Mercedes came with tires that lasted 30k miles at the very least. I don't ever remember having to change tires at 20k and I don't speed, drive fast, spin tires, etc., just really sad and I am VERY much considering leaving the brand all together and going to Maserati at this point, maybe even BMW. Really sucks to see this happening and they just don't seem to care at all.

It's just another technique being used to get owners into dealer service departments where over-priced wipers, cabin filters and fluid top-offs can be swept into your visit.

With respect to tread warranty, I believe if you can't rotate them (staggered tire sizes), then the stated warranty (in miles) is reduced by 50%. For example, a 45k tread warranty is reduced to 22.5k miles. Look at the warranty information closely, but that's what I recall reading. Good luck.

I bought my C300 earlier this month (4800 miles) and was unlucky enough to get a nail in my left rear 255 Goodyear Eagle F1 (Roadworks!!!). No tire place is allowed to fix it apparently. MB don't have any of the foam-insert tires and can only provide the non-foam insert units. I'm not Lewis Hamilton. I can't afford to start the race, get a flat and come back in every five minutes for another set every time I get a warning on the MBUX.

The tire places I talked to said "liability". I bet the part they didn't say "out-loud" was "it's an expensive tire to work on" and I'm guessing that technology is too new to let their techies play with. I believe this is a run-flat of some variation.....
