Does the trunk open when the vehicle is running and inside locked? Asking because (not sure) if certain MBs the trunk button does not respond from the outside if the engine is on and doors are closed and locked from inside. Yes you can open the trunk from the inside, I am mostly concerned that you crawl out and close the trunk but since it is theoretically all locked and engine is running, the trunk unlock button won't respond anymore when you return to the vehicle.

Yes, you can always open the trunk from inside unless you prevent it. There's a setting in COMAND/MBUX to prevent the trunk from being opened. I never quite understood that option and tried it out, so not entirely sure about exactly what it does. However, you can't open the trunk from the outside if the car is running and locked. This is to prevent you from being trunk jacked when stopped at a traffic light for example. Not sure that's an official term.

In that specific case, maybe it is for valet mode?

Yes, that was the answer I was looking for to my question. I thought so, that would make sense but what about if the vehicle is in Park like how OP will do it when he crawls outside of the car? I guess you still can't open the trunk from outside?

It is strange actually and might indeed depend on the MB model, I hear stories of people's trunk being opened during an automatic car wash, obviously they kept the engine on and running, doors locked, so how did that still happen other than the trunk/tailgate detecting the key near the foot sensor but it doesn't make sense as the key is nowhere close to that.

Worry about the people smashing windows because they see a pet in the vehicle without knowing the pet is in a more comfortable environment than those people when you keep the vehicle on with the a/c running and all.

That seriously is part of the reason I have windows tinted how I do....plus, I work with many Ophthalmologists who "wrote a note" allowing my tint to be "legal".

Hugo wears a chauffeur's cap, sits in the driver's seat and strikingly resembles Tom Homan. Nobody bothers him.

You may have stumbled onto a niche market, with a lot of revenue potential!

Leave window half open, get long stick to push brake pedal, lean in and start car. Close window a little more and place sign on window stating car is under video surveillance monitored by royal family, and then walk away slowly.
