Screen blackout

Anyone experienced screen blackout of the dashboard screen? This happened to me now for the first time in a year since I own the car. Its like screen started to shut down piece by piece, and once it was all black it started to turn on. It was all over (off and on) in few seconds, but it was in the middle of driving.

Happened to me last week. Started up, started driving, camera view stayed on the screen. And on. And on. I pushed the return button (the left arrow) and the screen went black. I pushed it again, it stayed black. So I pushed the MBUX power button, nothing for a few seconds, then the "crack" noise it makes when restarting and the screen came back to normal. It's been fine since. Weird behavior. Not quite what happened to you, but in the ballpark.

Yes, it happens to me about 6-8 times a year since I got the car. Screen will go dark (sometimes preceded by artifacts) then reboot. Sometimes I have to manually restart it.

I've heard a software update is needed to resolve this. But, in some cases a bad car battery can also be the cause.

Anyways, how do you restart it in the middle of driving?

Well, they just replaced my battery for a different fault so we shall see. I restart by pressing the power button.

If your battery was bad then it would all make sense. Thanks for the restart tip. I wouldn't think of it.

Also, have you asked them about screen blackouts?

I have not. I have learned to focus in order of severity and frequency or this car would be in the shop more than my garage. As it so happens, car is at the dealership right now with another issue I posted about.

Yesterday the screen went dark completely during start, would not turn back on for the duration of the drive. The instrument cluster flashed camera view reduced etc. (very common with my car) but screen remained off. Power button didn't work. Several hours later when returning home it rebooted at start and came back on. Just when I think something is fixed with this POS it rears its ugly head again. I am assuming an update broke something else.
