Designers and engineers are way too focused on change for the sake of change. Periodic "refreshes" are essential so that users don't become bored with the stale user interfaces with which we're familiar. Hunting for functions that have been moved or made more difficult to access is regarded as an improvement. When I buy something that turns out to be great, I buy two more because I know it will be unavailable a year from now. I haven't rearranged the furniture in my house in the 12 years I've lived here because I enjoy the assurance that a chair is located behind me when I'm halfway to sitting down. I am boring, and proud to be.

I turn off mine as well, but it really doesn't jerk the engine. It's super smooth. I imagine it puts more pressure on the starter motor, though. I just don't like being dead in the water at a stop sign or light. Reminds me of the old days when a car would just stop and I'd have to push it out of the intersection.
