How does anyone know how they feel about the design yet when no one has seen the real car? Amazing.

E. Weight should drop 250-300lbs under the new AMG weight loss program while the TT will increase torque.
06 CLS55 4050 lbs with 516 lbs-ft
07 CLS63 4210 lbs with 469 lbs-ft
11 CLS-TT 3910 lbs with 525 lbs-ft

F. Speedshift MCT (F-ing throttle blips)

G. Tires from the SLS, Pilot sport - 265/35 R 19 at the front and 295/30 R 20 at the rear (or 305's)

H. Race start launch control setting

I. C63 got bumped by 40HP and Benz always keeps a HP spread between lower models and higher ones.

J. Led lights, all around.

K. Anything but Harmon Kardon Speakers.

L. BMW's 4.4 liter has 555 hp and 500 lbs-ft and MB is not know for standing still.

https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...0&d=1211727371

One commonality with the SL63’s transmission is the SLS’s Race Start launch-control setting; it revs the engine and dumps the clutch for foolproof and optimal acceleration. How quick will the SLS be? Mercedes is projecting a 0-to-62-mph time of 3.8 seconds and says the top speed is governed at 196 mph and preliminary curb weight of 3571 pounds.

Geneva Preview: Mercedes F800 Style Concept Previews Second-Gen CLS

Back in 2006, Mercedes-Benz introduced DISTRONIC PLUS, the world’s first proximity and speed control system that operates even when the car is standing still. The system substantially reduces the stress for drivers in dense traffic, as it regulates the distance from the vehicle in front even at very low speeds all the way down to a standstill. With its new DISTRONIC PLUS Traffic Jam Assistant feature in the F800 Style, Mercedes-Benz has also become the world’s first automaker to implement a system that is also capable of automatically following the vehicle in front of it into curves. The system recognizes the difference between driving along curving roads and turning, which means it does not “blindly” follow the vehicle up in front – for example, when it changes lanes in order to exit the highway.

The result is that at speeds of up to about 25 mph, the Traffic Jam Assistant function takes care of both longitudinal and transverse movements so that drivers do not have to steer themselves. The driver can just sit back and relax – with hands on the steering wheel. When the 25 mph mark is exceeded, the steering torque that keeps the vehicle in its lane is gradually reduced to a point at which the Traffic Jam Assistant smoothly disengages. Drivers can, of course, override the system at any time. Sensitive sensors notice active steering movements, thus automatically deactivating the system’s lateral control function.

Mercedes design head - CLS to have SLS Grill

Wide grille, big logo face of the SLS AMG, which is the look we can expect from future Mercs. Design boss Gorden Wagener has confirmed this with Autocar UK, adding that the first production car to sport the new look will be the next CLS, set for launch later this year.

http://paultan.org/2010/02/23/merced...en-technology/

All future Mercedes will have styling their styling influenced by the F800 Style design concept, the firm's design boss Gorden Wagener has revealed.
Speaking to Autocar at the launch of the F800, Wagener revealed said the F800's front end will feature on all future Mercedes, starting with this year's next-generation CLS.
Wagener also said all future Mercedes would come with LED daytime lights as standard, although the light's "expression" would not be aggressive.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...llCars/247637/

When asked by AutoCar what elements of the F800’s design will make production? Wagener said: “the front end shows our new brand face. All future models will get this and there will be a full alphabet of Mercedes cars with this front.”

http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/02/22...future-models/

He also said that there will be a more standardized styling with the interiors as well. “There will be family recognition in our interiors and things like the F800’s centre console and wraparound dash will make production in future Mercedes,” Wagener said “You can see the F800’s interior in a C-class.”

Offical 5.5L twin Turbo

Its official, they posted over in the private lounge all the details and a dozen photographs of the new motor.
Whats interesting is the wording they used. Looks like the performance package will be more then brakes in the future. The trend started with the C63 a few months ago so we should have guessed.

900 newtons meter = 663.805934 foot pounds

"This high-tech package leads to a high output and torque yield, together with fuel consumption figures that are unrivalled in the competitive lineup.
The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine develops a peak output of 400 kW (544 hp) and maximum torque of 800 newton metres.
In conjunction with the AMG Performance package these figures are increased to 420 kW (571 hp) and 900 newton metres"

I got the message from AMG-private lounge

but the message said the marketing debut for this engine will be in the S63. The message did not mention any other models. Supposed to enter the "lineup" in Summer 2010.

Now we'll have something to bug them about at Javits in April. Hopefully I'll get some preview night tickets or connive one of you into taking me as your guest (Michael Jordans Steak house in return)

These are the latest spy pictures of AMG’s range-topping version of the new Mercedes CLS.

The saloon is set to be revealed at the Paris motor show in September; an estate version will be launched at next week’s Beijing motor show.

See the Mercedes CLS AMG spy pics

Codenamed C218, the new CLS sits on the same underpinnings as the current E-class, with a 20mm longer wheelbase than today’s model along with a corresponding increase in length, taking it to around 4950mm. But as with the first-gen CLS, the new car is more about style than interior space.

The AMG CLS will use a new turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine. Set to replace the existing naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8, it produces 537bhp, an increase of 30bhp over today’s model.

And an even more powerful version of the same engine will be offered as part of a performance package, with 563bhp - enough muscle to fire the new four-door to 60mph in just 4.2sec.

The AMG CLS will use the seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch transmission) unit that features in the E63 AMG.

The dynamic improvements brought to the new E-class should be reflected in the new CLS. The two cars share the same chassis and steering system.

Inside, the car receives a unique dashboard and interior trim to separate it from the more formal E-class saloon. The increase in exterior dimensions and longer wheelbase have created more room inside, and luggage capacity goes up to 530 litres.

Now, prototypes for Mercedes’ next-generation CLS has been spotted, revealing a few subtle clues about the new model. These latest shots show the high-performance AMG model, which will still be called the CLS63 despite being fitted with the tuning division's latest twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8. Peak output will stand at a generous 571 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

Clear giveaways that this is the AMG model are the quad exhaust tailpipes, additional air vents on the bonnet, and oversized brakes--the latter seen glowing red hot as the prototype tackles the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

So were starting to read that different models will have a this 30 hp performance option.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Each day we're inching closer to the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS' debut, so the Benz Boys are hard at work on the AMG variant of its swoopy four-door which should go on sale soon after the new C218-based CLS hits dealers early next year.

The AMG version is expected to be packing Mercedes' all-new 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, putting out 544 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque in standard guise, and 571 hp and a axle-decimating 660 lb-ft of twist when kitted out in the in the optional higher-spec trim. Power will find its way to the ground through the new E-Class' seven-speed automatic, while beefed up brakes and suspension components round out the high-performance package.

These newest spy shots give us a glimpse of those biggie-sized, glowing rotors, along with an SLS-inspired fascia and LED daytime running lamps. The arching roofline doesn't appear to have changed much over the outgoing model, while the rear end gains a new set of taillamps and trapezoidal quad exhausts.

Expect the new CLS to bow at the Paris Motor Show this fall, with the AMG variant – likely carrying the "6.3" designation – coming along quickly thereafter.

2012 CLS63

The last few day multiple articles say the CLS will keep the "63" name and have about 544 hp and the option of 571 hp.

Any bets that 30 hp option is $12k for the CLS and only $8k for all the other models ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps one of the most spied and, at the same time, most anticipated models of this year, the Mercedes CLS AMG still hasn't shed all of its Darth-like camo, some six months after we presented you the first set of spyshots showing the model.

Expected to be released onto the market sometime in 2011 (we know, in 2009 the rumor was the car will be released this year), the new model is likely to boast AMG's 5.5l engine developing around 544 horsepower. The unit will likely be paired with the SpeedShift MCT 7-speed transmission.

Until now, rumors were that the CLS will boast the 6.2l engine fitted on the 2010 E63 and CLS 63 AMG. But with all the downsizing going on in the industry and considering the similar power outputs of the two units, the 5.5l one is a more logical choice. It is unknown whether the 63 designation will be kept
Click to enlarge [Spyshots: 2011 Mercedes CLS 63 AMG - pic 2]
for the new CLS AMG, but keeping it would be the logical choice in order not to deter consumers.

Design wise, the CLS 63 AMG will borrow elements from the E-Klasse as well, but until photos with the car wearing less armor will be revealed, it's hard to see exactly what the eye-catching design cues will be.

As for the car which forms the basis of the CLS AMG, the CLS, it is also undergoing testing and is gearing up to enter production towards the end of the year.

Headlights with 71 LED's....

the Shooting Break has headlights made up from 71 individual LEDs, suggesting that full LED headlights are on the way for Mercedes production cars.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Crowning the new CLS lineup will be a successor to the CLS63 AMG. It eschews the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 of today's model for a new, turbocharged direct-injection 5.5-liter V8 (an engine previewed at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show). In standard form it kicks out 544 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, while an optional performance package will increase output to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

And I want those headlights !

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The headlamps: exciting LED technology offering full functionality

The Shooting Break concept car has dynamic full LED headlamps, which combine the exciting daylight colour impression of LED technology with the performance, functionality and energy efficiency of today's bi-xenon light generation. The new light system, due to make its debut in series production this year, features the Intelligent Light System which has already been tried and tested in Mercedes models with bi-xenon headlamps. Its five light functions – country lights, motorway lights, enhanced fog lights, active curve lights and cornering lights –have been specifically designed for typical driving or weather conditions.

The light specialists at Mercedes-Benz have also been able to combine LED technology with the innovative Adaptive Highbeam Assist for the first time, leading to a completely new level of safety at night.

Please, PLEASE give us 4WD!?

Please, PLEASE Mercedes give us 4WD at least as an option!?

550hp and 800/900Nm is useless without traction... especially in moist, wet or snowy conditions as we get here in Northern Europe 75 % of the time.
