The best AMG ever?
My dealer called me last week and told me to come see the new CLS 63 Performance Center Edition. I was not a fan of the previous generation CLS - I thought it looked a little too feminine. The new CLS (to me) looks taut and athletic.
The "Sintered Bronze Matte" paint is killer and the designo interior is flat beautiful. The driver's seat is the perfect balance of comfort and support, with adjustments galore. The suspension and transmission have plenty of options, from comfort cruiser to track ready - and everything in between.
The real star is the engine. 550 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It gallops right up to 100 mph like most cars run up to 30. And the car is rock steady at speed.
Other AMG's might be faster or handle better or look sexier.
But the question is.... Is this the best all around AMG ever? I think it might be the best balanced. It's the perfect conbination of comfort, sport, utility, good looks and drivability.
I see the Performance Center Ed. comes with red calipers.
Are you breaking-in the motor?
Or are you just driving it like you stole it?

I'm breaking in the motor - and it's killing me! I want to take an extended road trip, just to get the mileage on it. I'm not babying it, but I'm not flooring it every chance I get. Instead of 0 - 60 in 3.9, I'm taking it easy.... 0 - 60 in 4.5.

I've heard of two schools of thought:
1) Keep the speed of the motor under 4,000rpm, but vary the driving speed, for the first 1,000 miles.
2) Drive it like you stole it (up to redline) to help the piston rings to settle and create a better seal. "Supposedly", motors broken-in with this method produce higher numbers on the dyno. Again, for the first 1,000 miles.
