The X pipe is a pipe shaped like an X that is attached post primary cat and replaces the resonator section and then connects to the exhaust. It can also be used to replace 2ndary cats... here is a pic of an application (not for benz neccesarily)

Most higher end muffler shops should have this product but do your research first because the install is just as important IMHO.

Im doing this mod tomorrow with Pepe but one question:

Should I do the X pipe that Neosky did or do a straight pipe? (this is just to remove the resonators)

Since its a turbo car i don't think a x pipe is needed. you don't have to worry about loosing back pressure.

So just run the straights where the resonator is... I was thinking the same thing.

Aren't x pipes generally used to balance exhaust pressure between the two sides?

Go with straight pipes, your going to have a more aggressive tone with that setup.

Deleting resonators will in no way effect back pressure, be it straight pipes or X pipe.

All done... the car immediately is louder by at least 25%. Throttle blips yield a very very loud bark. I love the mod and Pepe said that the straight pipes will yield more sound than the x pipe. He said if you wanted more quiet gains then the x pipe is the way to go. And yes the CLS 2012 does not have post cats!

I love the new sound- makes me want to drive the car with the windows down all the time

Looks very clean Vic!! Pepe did a sick job!
Hes absolutely right about the sound, straight pipes sound alot more aggressive and have a very nice bark.

I know your gonna enjoy this mod to the fullest.

Please post some vids when you can, I really wanna hear how this beast sounds.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
So, this job should cost less as there's less fabrication to be done compared to an X-pipe.

I second the video!

Ok guys believe or not my video skills suck- hell my camera is ancient but my phone has HD video... Ill see if I can have someone film it tomorrow.

Ill tell you this- i went cruising around town and the car sounds freaking mean!!! It sounds like a race car and I have had some nice loud AMG's, GTR, M's, Porsche's... etc. This is a growler and the like I said before the throttle blips are awesome. Its not as loud as my GTR but its definitely loud!!! I recomment this mod to anyone who wants a sound upgrade in a 2012TT. It definitely changes the sound even more than removing the post cats and resonator in my W212 E63.

Ok all this makes me wanna go start her up again!!!!

It all depends, If your going with a universal X pipe like Magnaflow it will take as long as welding 2 straight pipes in place of the resonators.
If its a complete custom X pipe then that will take some time and will cost more.

It was 150.00 bucks--- as _AMG_ stated the fabrication to make the two straight pipes in correct length was more work than to plug in their pre made x pipe. The had to cut the pipes and recut to a perfect length and the left side was slightly different that the right. Pepe said it actually takes more time for the SP to be made that the plug and play X pipe.

Ah, I see. He has an X-pipe already made and ready to go. Cool.
I think I will also go the straight pipe method depending on Vic's video.

Cant go wrong with straight pipes.
Had it on my car for a while now and haven't looked back ever since.

What I notice the difference between straight pipes and x-pipe other than the sound was at idle. I did try both straight pipe and x-pipe on my W212 E63, and what I notice was with straight pipes, you get that "wind" sound at idle, more like something is blowing out from the exhaust quite hard. On the other hand, x-pipe creates a softer rumble tone compared to the stock exhaust and it's quiet at idle.

Just to share a bit of info

Since I just came back from the muffler shop (like 1 hr ago), I haven't given it a few days for the sound to settle. The muffler guy said it would sound a little bit louder in a few days time, as it burns more through the muffler. As it stand right now, the sound is about 15% more than stock. For me, this is perfect because I liked the stock sound, just wished it was a bit louder.

There is no noticeable performance gains, and the car drives the same as before. Obviously, you save some weight by removing the resonator but that's it. There is no problem with the Eco mode, as the car still sounds relatively quiet at idle. It's just compared to before, you can now hear more during 1800-2200rpm acceleration. Before, you wouldn't hear anything until you get over 3000rpm.
It's been close to 4 months since you got this done. Any updates on the sound? Still enjoying it, pros and cons? Thanks!

Just had my resonator removed about a week ago, and I love it. The car roars more at WOT, but I haven't heard any drone at 2k RPM. I went with straight pipes, and I can definitely hear the "wind" sound that others mentioned, but only when I'm standing next to the exhaust (i.e. getting stuff out of the trunk).
