2012 resonator delete

Has anyone done a resonator delete on the 2012 CLS63? I like the way the stock exhaust sound on my car, but I just wished it had a bigger rumble (like the F1 pace cars). Would removing the resonator do the trick?

I don't want it to sound too loud, just a bit louder than stock.

I was planning on doing this, as all my previous 55 and 63 sounded well with just the res deleted. however with the New 63 comfort eco mode, I am afraid when my wife drives it, everytime she comes to a complete red light stop, it would restart engine since she drives on eco mode. I would imagine it would be annoying to keep hearing the engine restarting over and over again at each stop light. If i can somehow learn a way to never be on comfort and eco mode, I would jump on this mod asap !!

Alright, I just took the resonator off of my 2012 CLS63 (used a custom x-pipe to replace it) and the car sounds very good. Since I just came back from the muffler shop (like 1 hr ago), I haven't given it a few days for the sound to settle. The muffler guy said it would sound a little bit louder in a few days time, as it burns more through the muffler. As it stand right now, the sound is about 15% more than stock. For me, this is perfect because I liked the stock sound, just wished it was a bit louder.

There is no noticeable performance gains, and the car drives the same as before. Obviously, you save some weight by removing the resonator but that's it. There is no problem with the Eco mode, as the car still sounds relatively quiet at idle. It's just compared to before, you can now hear more during 1800-2200rpm acceleration. Before, you wouldn't hear anything until you get over 3000rpm.

Thanks man,I was talking to someone at kleeman about manipulating the exhaust to make it londer and they are talking about $1000 not really sure what that intel's but I think he said messing with the 1st cats and opening up the mufflers all with out it looking like it was ever touched, maybe $1000 is a good price for all of that but its sounds like a bit much for just that

That's a lot of money for keeping the stock muffler system. Also, if you open up the muffler, you WILL be able to tell that it has been touched (you will need to re-weld it back after you open it up).

Based on my preference, my tech suggested for me to remove the resonator first. He said if it's not loud enough, then he will modify or remove the stock mufflers, but it will be really loud and it might drone inside the car when you are cruising on the highway.

Thats exactly what I was thinking,he said they do everything from the top and the only way you would be able to tell is if you took the system off,I think I'm going to take your guys advice and take it in steps lol ,thanks again for the help.

i wonder how will it be if i remove primary cats and resonators + a tune.

i think it will be very loud.

does your car has PP ? i think PP is more aggressive and sounds louder.

Absolutely no drone inside the car. The sound increase from the resonator delete is very moderate and it doesn't really change the change characteristic of the sound, just the volume by about 15%.

If you want something a little bit louder than that, you can bypass the muffler, but that might create the drone at 2k rpm. I don't think our cars has the secondary cats like on the C63s.

Yup, no drone inside the car. I will drive the car for a few days and then do a recording both inside and outside the car.

I was very surprised at how minimal the sound increase was after the resonator was removed, because I was concerned that it might be too loud!

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
neosky, did your muffler guy also build the X-pipe for you or did you get that elsewhere?

Would love to hear your vids comparing in/outside sound.

Ok, made a short video clip this morning from outside the car. Cold start, with some revs after the catalyst converter warmed up.

sounds great! Now go get some 3" downpipes and remove the cats and watch that baby spool like a mf'er! There has got to be a good 30whp and 50tq in a good downpipe setup on these TT motors...

+1
The mufflers are they main reason why drone is canceled out.
AMG did a fantastic job on the OEM mufflers.

Here is a clip of inside the car, cruising on the road.

I think the sound quality on my camcorder is horrible (you can't really hear anything), but I can assure you, there is no drone inside the cabin.

It's the stock exhaust, just with the resonator removed and a custom x-pipe.
