Renntech CLS63 C218 Ecu upgrade
#27
I just spoke with Bob Brady @ Renntech and he said it won't work anyway. The car can only be programmed to work with one ECU at a time. You can't switch/PnP.

Yes and there are no PP ECU's in stateside right now (as of last check) and only 1 in Germany... its a decent turnaround if I ever wanted a 2nd one. And dealers are not so inclined to reprogram an ECU for no reason.

i found it online that cost about 850 Euro
use MB part number
i don't think making a clone of the ECU will work, as i read it will check sum everytime you turn the car on, or something like that.

Car is running flawlessly. Honestly I have nothing but great things to say about the group at Renntech. I feel like the software for these cars is should be a no brainer to any owner.
Why would you spend the $100k on the car and not spend an extra $3k to get another 110hp and 150 torque.

the drop is not tires spinning. its the turbo spooling up. 4.3psi extra will do that. but the end result should due worth it.
Do they offer a 16.8psi version that only delivers 60hp but kicks in sooner?

Rob,
I also sent my cls to Renntech. I don't have have the image yet to post but on renntechs dyno it showed almost 580 HP and matching torque. It really changes the entire car. I was so impressed I sent it back to them to upgrade the transmission, the slip differential, add the upgraded cool system, and change downpipes to 100. Can't wait to get it back....

What kind of gains are people getting with pre 2012 CLS63's? All I see are 2012 results everywhere I search. Is there an ECM tune for those cars? If so, what kind of gains do they get. Only asking as I am considering buying an 08 CLS63, and want to make sure that the tune is also a huge difference in that car as I currently drive a supercharged Challenger, and I do not want to end up with a slower car. Thanks!

So basically- No you will not see anything close.
As for your supercharged challenger, what does it trap in the quarter- whats does it run zero to 100... 60 to 130 mph. Not sure about a CLS63 (2008) being slower or faster until we get some more data. FYI a tuned 2012 CLS63 will trap over 126mph and run low 11's in the quarter.

"Our ECU tune offers the biggest performance gains on the market with our dyno results increasing performance from 556 HP and 550 lb/ft torque, to an astonishing 669 HP and 734 lb/ft at the crank! This allows the CLS 63 to run the quarter mile on D.O.T. street tires in an impressive 11.3 seconds at 125 mph with 0-60 mph coming in a mere 3.4 seconds."

Yes...I sent mine over there today and can't wait to get it back. These are their claims on the site and I have done enough research to believe it.

they put 669hp based on 580-590whp
stock pp puts about 520whp.
so 80whp does not = 115hp on crank.
infact, check kleemann website and you will see they have 690hp for just a tune i belive these companies are calculating 18-20% drivetrain loss
maybe with other mods
- downpipe
- Air filter
- extra cooling
you will get above 600rwhp.
my .63 cent

Completely different gains in a normally aspirated 2008 CLS63 versus a twin turbo 2012 CLS63... In fact you would probably see maybe 20 whp from a tune on 2008 vs gains of 80-100 whp on a 2012 CLS63.
So basically- No you will not see anything close.

60': 1.772
330': 4.884
1/8: 7.464
MPH: 94.97
1000: 9.690

I did have a friends 17": Hoosiers on it with the above run. I ran a 12.07 1/4 with my 20" street tires.
