Just got my car today--- as soon as I hit my AMG button- its gone. But I think its standard when you start the car...

The ECO start/stop is the most annoying aspect of the car. Since companies are modifing the software in the car for performance, they should be able to delete the automatic "feature" of always starting out in the ECO and C modes. I doubt it really saves any gas. I have 3000 miles on my car and the average mpg reads 14. On my 2006 CLS 55, the average mpg was 13.7 after 50,000 miles. I attribute the small gain soley to the the 7 speed transmission.

Seatbelts must be on. You get used to it. After releasing the brake I give it a sec to get itself together. Also if you let the car roll forward slightly it won't shut off.

Per the manual, there are a lot of criteria that must be met (battery charge, cabin temperature versus AC setting, full stop, etc.) before the engine will stop. I use Eco mode pretty much every day, and it shuts off at almost every light I come to.

cabin temperature versus AC setting <------ i can't beleive this.
because it shut off when outside temp was 40C and AC setting was 16C. and the cabin became hot :S inside due to AC comperssor is not working.

There is no easy way to have ECO mode default to "Off". The car was prepared for EPA testing with it as defaulted on. In case you didn't notice when you bought your car, there was no "Gas Guzzler" tax on the sticker. This is thanks to the (yes, it's annoying) ECO mode. I typically switch my car to the "S" or "S+" mode as soon as I start it, depending on where I am going, so the ECO mode is turned off. If I'm just cruising around town, it isn't that annoying.

Dont you all use your AMG button as default when you start your car? Its mandatory for me when I start the car- this will erase your ECO mode unless you drive in C mode right?

My understanding is that the AMG button can be programmed to any of the modes - I have mine set to S+ & the firmest suspension (I hit it every time I see a car I want to leave in the dust).

Yes you are correct and this will eliminate the auto eco mode for those of you who have it default mode. I have mine set the same as you but I hit the AMG button right after I start the car. The only problem I have is it does not control the ESP button and for the full compliment of TQ you need to actually press the ESP button down for two seconds until its "off". I almost always drive my W212 E63 with ESP off- if you know how to drive cars and can keep control in the turns, its the best way to drive the car. All the TQ available all the time...... dont do it in the rain though.

Ali do this:
Turn car on
Pick your transmission settings first (I choose S+)
Then pick your suspension settings (I choose Sport Plus)
Then press and hold the AMG button down (until you hear the beep)
Now your transmission and suspension settings are set. Once you start your car, press the AMG (dont hold it down for more than a second) and your settings will appeard on the MFD. The only thing the AMG button doesnt program is the ESP button. I always have to press and hold the ESP button down to deactivate it entirely. Then I press the AMG button to get my tranny and susp settings.

I've got my AMG button programmed to the same suspension settings except I've got transmission to Manual. I love to be in control of the engine's rotations all the time.
