3" downpipes CLS63TT

We are making some downpipes for a customer that has a 2011 CLS63. They are made from 3" stainless steel and the most important factor was that the stock downpipes can be bolted back into place easily and that there would not be any evidence that they were out. This is our first set of downpipes on this car so we needed to make some custom flanges that could seal the same way as the factory ones. Here are some pictures of them getting done.

nice work, clean welds

1. any plans for mass production?

2. why did you choose 3" piping vs 2.5"

3. any plans on doing a before and after dyne run?

4. when the cel shows up does it go into limp mode and cut power or it just a light

5. are the stock primary cats 600CL or more?

6. how does it sound?

I think I will do a few more downpipes to fine tune all the bends and make a nice finished product before we produce them, this is our first one. We chose 3" because the stock piping is 2.75" some points. The car was dyno'd before when it was stock and it will now have the downpipes and the customer also got an OE tune. I do not know how many cel the factory cats in the car are and, as for the CEL light coming on, I am hoping that the rear o2's have been shut off.

If we were to make a 3" stainless steel bolt on set of downpipes, what price point would you guys expect it to be at. There are a couple of pieces to this exhaust set up that are fairly expensive to make. I am trying to figure out what our cost average after 20 sets would be on each one to come up with a retail price.

What would you guys think is a fair retail price for downpipes so we can figure out if we can put something together?

The check engine is on with the OE tune but after talking to Jeremy just now he said he should have a solution for it soon. As of today though, there is a check engine light. I will update everyone once the CEL has been eliminated.

Yeah, a few people seem to have the solution for it already and I am sure Jeremy will have it taken care of soon as well. The owner of this cars preference was to use an OE tune, all we did was build the downpipes.

RPM, who makes the DPs and sponsors MBW, started this thread. Did someone mention DPs from another source in this thread? If so, that's obviously poor form.

Since RPM is a Renntech dealer, and RPM didn't even provide the OE tune on this car, I have a hard time seeing how that post could've been damaging to RPM (the sponsor who started this thread) in any way. Possibly damaging to OE, perhaps, but this isn't OE's thread.

I deleted the post in question- not a big deal but in relation to this thread where RPM was citing OE tuning as the tuner I felt it was un-necessary to discuss another tuner. RPM can have the post reinstated if they want since they are a Renntech dealer and I didnt think there was damage to them but when I am around in threads like this I like to keep the sponsor threads about who they wish to discuss.

Cool, I get where you were coming from now. Thanks for the explanation - beautiful new M157 wagon, BTW. Got the HREs on it yet?

Enough OT outta me - great looking DPs, RPM. Car sounds like a handful, Big Al - be careful! Hope to see some solid track times soon.

Vic I love the OE tune it really brings out the car true potential you really feel it. The gear changes are quicker the car really moves and pulls harder and with the downpipes its just amazing sounds insaine outside the car but inside you dont notice it untill you mash on the pedal. My friend was the first cls63tt that oe did and was amazed by the oe tune i heard nothing but great things from them. This is the first AMG of mine and will not be my last and will keep going back to OE.

Sounds great, Jeremy has been tuning all my cars since 2004 but I havent decided on getting a tune just yet with the PP on the cars that I have.

I know he did Tom's car too, is that who you were referring to?
