do you think the rear of the cls is a little busy?

I agree. I actually like how it looks with the chrome bar blackened. I wrapped my chrome bar on W212 E63 with carbon and layered with clear coat to give enough shine and it looks good (with the badge and exhaust tips stays chrome) giving it a contrast. I also still have the chrome window trim just not to die out the elegant aspect of the car IMO.

Color matched my trunk strip, would prefer it not have one at all, but oh well. Also painted the window surround gloss black, which I much prefer, as well as the chrome on the doorhandles, though I'm thinking I'm going to go all black w/ those.

Damn that's a sick looking CLS...how are you getting the paint to stick to the chrome (plastic) where everyone else, included my painter, tells me that it will chip off?

looks real good...
i dont have any reservations about blacking out the chrome strip on my cls now.(when it eventually gets here, in another 1 1/2 LOOONG months)
i will try to just do it in OEM obsidian black though.

I think the reason the chrome bar is a problem for a lot of you is because of the design of it. Never have I seen such a crude and unfinished implementation of the bar. Usually M-B will finish it and refine it toward the edges, however with the C218's, it just stays one shape, and abruptly bang ends into each corner, making it kind of a problem if your eyes fixate onto it.
I never loved the CLS rear look, which of course started with the original CLS, being that smooshed down, really squat look, but I do mostly really like the C218's rear. I've seen people complain about the taillights, but I really like them as well.
What does look very busy to me on the car, are the clashing asymmetrically jarring side lines, which hamper what is an otherwise great looking car to me.
Not that my opinion matters anyway, as with my height, I can't even fit into the thing!

Thanks for the nice comments. I haven't had any chipping issues w/ the paint over chrome so far, most concerned about the grill, if it chips I will wrap it. Going to paint the roof rack strips black, as well as the entire doorhandles and possibly the side mirror lowers. Also going to mount these bad boys (on route).

I actually really can't! It's upsetting as I didn't think I was THAT tall. I'm around 6'5, and to each salesman who has said the same thing as you (that I should be able to sit in it comfortably), once they saw me packed in there, seat all the way down, even sitting remotely straight and my head is pushing up against the top. Of course, I could drive in a constant gangsta lean I guess.

That looks RIDICULOUS! Damn! Love it.
To the person who owns that car, is that an OEM wing or if not, which one is it? Can't tell too easily but it looks like it is larger than the OEM wing.
Edit: Yeah looks aftermarket. I notice that the piece descends down into the trunk more.

Yeah, I definitely gave it a few tries! I guess it saves me a bundle of cash, lol. I would have at least liked the chance to seriously cross shop it and gauge whether I'd want it or not, rather than automatically have no choice but to not ever consider it at all.

Its Carlsson trunk spoiler. Yes it does, and it gives a subtle look compared to Vorsteiner IMO but notice that you have to remove the MB round logo in order to have the Carlsson trunk spoiler in place.
