manual shifting in 2012 cls63(those with tunes please respond!)
i made this clip of me yesterday shifting in manual mode.
it seems to be awefully slow to shift...
actually, the gear change itself is fast, but teh delay from when the paddle is pressed till the time of teh actual gearshift seems to be waaay to long...
it makes the car feel unresponsive, and boring.
is everyones shifting this slow?
and if so, does a tune address this at all?

There has always been an annoying lag with both my AMGs...but if you tune it, drop it and added brabus paddles I think you may find the experience that you are looking for...regardless of the little lag. Seriously....
These aren't stick shifts though so you will never have that kind of control here regardless.
IMHO....

Hmm that does seem slow to me, compared to my 07 E63, perhaps it's the way you're doing it (slapping the paddle) that is giving the impression of a slow shift but I'm going to try it in my car and video the results. Looks like I found my completely justifiable reason to drive fast this morning

It's all relative, we all know this isn't a dsg or Ferrari f1 trans.
Should have gotten these tuning companies to work on fastershifts along with their power boost

Hmmmm... from what I remember my shifts weren't THAT slow... they aren't instant... but they aren't like that... IDK
a tune MAYBE addresses those issues I have no idea to be honest, or you can just see if someone can fiddle with the response from the paddles...

Ok here's my submission. One thing I don't like about manual mode is it seems to be adaptive like the other modes are. I had to take it through the gears a few times before it got aggressive on the shifts but seems tighter and quicker to me. First video is lower rpm shifting similar to what it seemed you did. Second video is higher rpms, accidentally hit the horn at the end, haha.

The reaction depends on how hard you are on the car, in your case you are cruising and want to have super shifts which don't work with those intelligent cars, try to nail the car and shift as soon as the speedo lights up and you will have faster reactions and turn your traction settings off to sport

yeah yours do seem to be a bit quicker than mine. but thats a different car, different engine, and different transmission, no?
i slap the gear shift because i wanted to distinguish between the time the paddle was hit and the time the shift was heard.

I'm rockin an 08 cls and shifts are consistant w/ the better automatic transmissions out there. That is, after all, what we all have. I think what you may be looking for Mainly is an F1 transmission. As long as our transmissions still work with a torque converter you will always have that lag. F1s of course all have clutches. You also pay for it w/ a new clutch every 20-30k miles. I'll be the first to say Ferrari, Lambos and the GT-R have AMAZING transmissions. We, however, have an awesome automatic transmission with 'flappy paddle' things behind the wheel. I don't know if this helps you out but we're never going to get that true F1 feeling out of our gearboxs.

no, that doesn't help. sorry.

The one thing a video doesn't relay very well is the hardness of the shift (butt dyno). Once I've romped on it a few times and my trans learns my immediate driving style it shifts noticeably harder. I took about 5 videos but the first couple runs still had that comfort feel to the shift. Once it recognized I was driving aggressively it started shifting a lot harder, and all that happened without leaving manual mode. The videos I posted are my last two runs after it shaped up.

i never mentioned that, but its another thing that dissapointed me. the shifts are way too gentle.
i really think they did design this car for a middle aged dude. its just too tame for me.
in every way.
it aint lookin good.
i sure wish more people would chime in who actually have this car and have a tune...?

Hard to judge but you're right, yours seems a bit slow...mine is definitely faster under WOT (not sure how aggressive you were in your video). Based on my previous experience with a C63 (different transmission though), I don't think an ECU tune will change anything to your TCU.

Maybe Vic will chime in. He will be able to tell you if shift speeds improve after a tune. Also, he can compare it against true dual clutch cars. My bet is that a tune will improve shift speeds but you will never approach the sledgehammer action of a Porsche PDK, GTR twin clutch or the new M5. My advice: If you need to go fast, just floor it and let the car sort it out.
I predict a new M5 may be in your future.

but apparantly my car depreciated by 40k since i got it 3 weeks ago...
i cant throw away 40k just to get in the m5...

Im ABSOLUTELY sure that more people will look at the CLS, and all you need to do to embarrass any M5 in a race is to get a tune.
That 40K in depreciation wont really matter after you beat an M5.
BUT, its your opinion, money, wants, etc. and its just my thought.

Sell it outright and I would think that the max hit would be 10K. Looks like you can do a nicely optioned M5 for 95K so it should be cheaper than a CLS63.
Good luck!
