Farewell CLS
Tomorrow I'm trading in my '12 CLS63 for a new M5. Someone will end up with it, maybe a forum member. Be on the lookout for a black one with 10.8k miles. Well cared for, renntech tuned, maybe raced. I just picked up a '13 SL63 a month ago, loving it, and the CLS seemed redundant with it having the same engine, transmission, etc. I want something different. The AWD on the upcoming models don't do anything for me, and they're still too "samey" for the SL. I've actually been looking for an M5 since Feb, but dealers around here weren't willing to deal, but now they are. Looking forward to it, but still sad to see the CLS go.

I jumped out of my CLS after a short year for the M5... but for reference the M5 is going going gone LOL.
How do you like the S8? It has some amazing numbers for a big beast.
LOL... very very true

Yeah I can't compete with Vic, but I do jump around a lot.
Mine is Space Gray/Black. Full leather interior, Exec package, driver assist, B&O. No pics yet, dark out now. One of the hardest things about a new car is getting the seats just right. And so many settings and buttons on this thing. This is my first BMW so we'll see how it goes.
It's going to be hell breaking this car in. BMW are apparently ***** about their break ins. They said the computer records if you go over 4200 during break in. Ugh...
It's a surprisingly large car now that I have it in the garage. Makes the SL look small. Wonder which one is faster? SL is a non PP car, stock, just 800 miles on it. SL63 is lighter and Sat I pulled hard on an OE tuned C63 coupe, I was running away from it. I was pretty surprised. SL must be silly underrated.

That red interior looks superb on the SL.
We just picked up a new M5 last week as well as our new show vehicle, white on white. Beautiful car and just puts a smile on my face every time i sit behind the wheel.
I hope you enjoy yours!

Congrats on the new rides. M5 looks great.
I have heard many say the new SL is better than the old (lighter is always good) but I really do not like the new design. No matter, as long as you love it, that's what counts.

Jim, I crushed my break in on my M5. I mean I did the what I and others deem as correct in doing a hard break in. I pushed the rpms up and down the ranges and ran thru the gears but never let it sit at redline for too long. I always have done this with all my cars. I call BS (not you but the naysayers)on any dealer who tries to void a warranty for driving the car hard or it would be in the warranty agreement and/or limited at the rpm range. From day one I ran: MDM, Sport Plus on the shocks and throttle, S3 on the tranny mode, and comfort on steering (too much understeer in sport or sport plus IMHO). The same was done with the M6 (same engine).
The seats have a ton of adjustments but also that memory button works well so keep adjusting, setting, adjusting, setting until you are happy. I think I had to go thru 5 runs in the car at different speeds to get there. I wish the car had adjustable side bolsters though. The M6 just hugs you better.
Congrats

Great pickup. I love the SL -- the red interior is beautiful especially with the top down
My friend who has the F10 M5 actually test drove the new SL and said the car is really really nice. But, I wonder how durable the M5 (or the new Ms I suppose) is/are when pushed hard compared to AMGs -- he did couple runs with launch control within like 3 days span and unfortunately broke the axle?? :O I'm not sure what happened because I wasn't there. However, remembering I did couple launch control on my W212 E63 and its still running strong.

I think I've settled down into a good seat position now, just fine tuning it. Still tinkering with all the controls and settings for the onboard computer. This thing is far more advanced than any MB. I can see why older people might hate it, but it's a tech junkies wet dream.

Thanks. It takes some getting used to. It has more presence in person than it does in pictures.

There are a number of tuned AMGs that have snapped rear axles and one non tuned if I recall. I never used launch control on my CLS, but I had it tuned from purchase and it never gave me any trouble.

Thanks. I was concerned about it at first not having seen one in person until I chanced upon a 550 with the red interior.

Man, great fleet! The M5 is the perfect all around car inside and out to me and the new SL I'm not a fan of as I feel the exterior is a big let down to the SL nomenclature but yours is beautiful. The SL63 treatment is really a must to balance out that design, IMO.

I keep them until the intrinsic value that I have set wears off. Its true lately Ive been dancing a bit more but there is always a method to my madness.
2004 E55 lasted almost 3 1/2 years
2007 Porsche Turbo lasted 3 1/2 years
2011 Porsche Turbo lasted 1 1/2 years
But:
2012 E63 Wagon lasted 4 1/2 months LOL
2002 Audi S4 lasted 6 months
2012 CLS 63 TT lasted 11 months
2005 CL65 lasted 12 months
2013 M5 lasted 6 months
And the rest sit somewhere in between. Ill tell you right now that the R8 V10 is going to be with me for quite some time; its just incredible with the exhaust, ecu, and tcu mods. The Black Series might have finished its run at 1 year.
Sorry Jim, back to you- Vic the thread jack is out

I tried out the R8 before getting the SL63, deals on them were just awesome. However after getting in one I had to rule it out. I'm taller from the waist up and even with the seat lowered as far as it would go my hair was brushing the roof, and this was in the evening. In the morning I would have to of held my head sideways against the roof.

No problem sir. Car ADD is a terrible thing, if not entertaining at times. Your Porsches lasted longer than mine. The GT3 lasted a year and the Turbo only 8 months. The CLS held out for a month shy of 2 years though.

I had a 996TT too and that lasted 18 months; P cars have held my attention for longer times.
my AMGS though:
2001 E55 3 years (but I was just a kid)
2004 E55 3 1/2 years
2005 CL65 1 year
2010 E63 15 months
2012 E63 Wagon 4-5 months
2012 CLS63TT 11 months
And the Black Series has a bday on the 9th-
