Supersprint offers the widest range of Mercedes-Benz AMG high performance exhaust systems on the market. Throughout the years, we have amassed vast experience with Mercedes’ massive naturally aspirated and supercharged V8s.
Recently, Mercedes-Benz AMG completely changed their engine development philosophy to meet ever increasing fuel consumption requirements by reducing displacement and going to twin turbocharged V8s for their CLS and E Class AMG offerings. We researched and developed numerous variations to come up with the final, ultimate performance exhaust systems for the 5.5 Biturbo engine on the E and CLS platform.
Stock Exhaust
The CLS63 and E63 5.5TT share the chassis and under-body, as such the exhaust system and power-train are exactly the same except for the tailpipes. The stock system is divided in two parts:

Downpipe Development
At Supersprint, we constantly begin research and development starting from the engine. Usually, this is where most performance gains are achieved and the remainder of the system is developed with this in mind. We replaced the OEM downpipes with simple direct pipes, and we placed 200 CPSI HJS metallic cats on the front pipes where the stock system has two resonators. The downpipes must be fitted with our catted or catless front pipes.
We kept the primary O2 sensor bungs on the downpipe to allow connection with the OEM 02 sensors without wire extensions to avoid any trouble with the air/fuel management. For the secondary post-cat sensors, we prepared two possible positions:

Cat-Back Exhaust Development
The cat-back can be fitted with the OEM front section thanks to specific adaptors (847433), after some dyno and sound test we decided an H-Pipe was the best solution (part number 848313). The rear mufflers end up being the only silencers present on the car with the full Supersprint system. The mufflers structure was researched, developed and designed for this car with the target of a muscular, V8-rumble in mind.
For the tips, we went for the classic 120x80mm oval quadruplets. They are adjustable to reach the perfect position in the bumper arch. The tips are slightly different in length between the CLS, the Saloon and the Wagon.
It’s possible to fit the OEM rear muffler and tailpipes with the Supersprint H-pipe and front section, to get more sound without changing the look of the car, or to fit the Supersprint rear exhaust with the stock centre and front sections as well, for a mild sound increase with a different, deeper tone.

Power Gains & Upcoming Exhaust Intermediate Pipe R&D
Power gains with the full system are minimal without a ECU tune as the engine doesn’t allow any increment in turbo boost pressure even with the new reduced backpressure from the Supersprint exhaust.
A potential cause for this is another section of pipe, right under the headers (refer to the AMG turbo diagram). The exhaust intermediate pipe (pink section) has an extremely irregular shape, flattened and very restrictive. These are also quite hard to replace, so at first we worked just on the “visibile” part of the exhaust.
We were able to fit a new “twin branches” design pipe, longer and with a much larger section without changing or removing any other component in the engine bay. It wasn’t possible to use a single, larger bore pipe since the room available is small and irregular.
These new pipes are still under development as in order to fit these new pipes, the downpipes will need to be revised as the new intermediate exhaust pipes are longer to avoid steep angles in the merged section of the two branches. This section is also much larger than stock. We also fitted support brackets on the pipes to avoid excessive stress to the turbo flanges. We are also considering using Inconel as they are subject to extreme temperatures and mechanical stress.

1.Without extension: using a microcat (optional) or a ECU reflash to avoid the check engine light (highly recommended)
2.With extension (not included): after the HJS metallic cats

ok so if your pipes dont provide any significant power increase with out a tune, then whats the point
if we get a weistec or renntech, ams etc tune, we know we are getting 100 or so HP from the tune only......what does the system offer in conjuction with that....
also why get your pipes, they look similiar in design to the competitors....why yours....?
thanks

There are no exhaust system on the market that will provide any significant peformance gains without a suitable tune.
The point to our exhaust system is to increase sound with our cat-back and increase performance with our full kit when matched with a tune.
We make it extremely clear that a tune is required. In similar fashion to the F10 M5, these cars are ECU limited.
Our downpipes are also the best priced on the market. Along with our soon to be released intermediate pipes, this will be the most peformance enhancing modification once paired with a tune for the 5.5L turbo.
Our exhaust differs from the competition in various ways; price, quality, configuration, compatibility and more. The R&D lab highlights these advantages by giving clear and precise insights into the development of this exhaust system.
I hope this helps.

Did you think that there "might" be an aural pleasure to the exhaust? This is no different than BMW F10 engines and their exhaust (many brands) upgrades: they show limited to zero hp/tq gains.
pricey sound upgrades...... i guess for some...your option with the res is more palatable

Weictec offers the full exhaust kit which is quite a pricey upgrade 5K+. I wonder if Supersprint would sell the turbo downpipe separately? It is interesting to get more detailed information regarding the inner diameter of Supersprint turbo downpipe? And in the most interesting would the the pricing?

Someone needs to get these so we can get some data. I'm still waiting to see which pipes put down the most power.
