ECU Tune to eliminate hesitation
I read in one of the threads that the dealer can do an ECU tune to eliminate the hesitation upon acceleration.
Can anyone verify this information?

ECU tuning is done by aftermarket tuners, not generally dealers (although I have heard of dealers having relationships with tuners, notably Renntech, Eurocharged here in Toronto). In my case it made it slightly better, but still not what I'd call normal. Mercedes will absolutely not provide software to fix this, for whatever reason. It is way beyond me why it is like this in the first place. It makes these cars very uncomfortable to drive and slow to respond to throttle input.
Maybe next I'll try one of these pedal box kind of things.
Good luck,
Aiden

Thanks
Sorry for delay in thanking you for taking the time to respond to my inquiry.
My frustration now is trying to initiate race start fast enough before it drops out.

pedal box makes a big difference, I have it on my '14 SL, there are different settings depending on how aggressive you want the response to be, with it's most aggressive setting there is essentially no turbo lag, very impressive

^^^What that is doing is adjusting the sensitivity of the throttle pedal sensors...Makes you feel the car is faster then it actually is....I would tune it and see if it helps your issue with the car...I wouldn't want to drive the CLS63 with out it being tuned really...

I am very impressed with the device and it's relatively cheap

Hi Steinart, good to hear of your results with the pedal box. I may try that as well. The delay is quite bothersome. A tune seems to partially deal with it only. A quick Q, did you also tune and add the pedal box?
Also, it seems to me the issue is software and not necessarily turbo lag. To me I cannot sense turbo lag at all, in the sense that once it agrees with my throttle input and decides to do something about it, it comes off the bottom end quite well. Thoughts?

I have not tuned the car only because MB will not stand behind the warranty regardless of what the dealer says, I looked into it in depth

I checked the vendor directory through the word search for "pedal box" to no avail.
Please shoot me the link to their manufacturer.
In addition, why does Will say it' s faster without race start?

Is pedalbox and sprintbooster about the same?

On the pedal box, there are different settings, if you set it to Sport or Sport+ and curve 3+ you will have virtually no pedal lag, it's immediate!

I emailed pedalbox... They don't officially list the e63S... Just the w212 5.5 with performance pack... From 2013

I don't believe they are same company, but what they do is about the same, which one is better that is open for discussion.
Steinhart had better results on his SL than what I was having with S63, didn't do a jack S...for S63...ooh well..

My thought is that perhaps it's not as good for mct trans cars like ours compared to 7gtronic autos like the SL

My 2014 E550 had very little pedal/accelerator lag... it was very snappy, particularly in Sport mode

^^^ Exactly.. What Steinhart is saying is it helped with his accelerator pedal lag, which is all in the scaling in the tune (wether its factory or aftermarket)...
Turbo lag is not there in this car....with factory turbos..
I believe the suggested module and the sprint booster tries to do the same thing. Just manipulates the throttle pedal sensor signal..Hope that makes sense. If you tune the car, you can ask the tuner to adjust that so you wouldn't need to add the module on top of the tune.

quite honestly, i'm not sure if i know the difference, all I can tell you is on S63 there is a delay on throttle response, whether it is coming from turbo's or the pedal, either way of which it is not a good feeling when you need that power to be there in that present moment...i'm not not a mechanic or claim to know all, ask me about guns I'll let you know.., but when it comes to cars I'm pure enthusiast...lol
