M157 Engine Oil
Took my car in for an Oil change and they used SAE 5w-40 MB-Approval 229.5
item number: A 000 989 83 01 USB6
How many M157 engine owners are using the same and how well does this oil work with our engines?

I was wrong. The brand they use is called liquimoly. 5w40. MB approved.
My car was at EC getting downpipes installed, and I just told them to do an oil service since it was up in the air. A few days later, while my car was running inside the garage I noticed it made less "noises". I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I asked him.
Now it's all I use in the M157.

I've been using the oil you can buy from the mb dealerships, and every month or so the car tells me to add 1l of engine oil. I do have a very heavy foot, and am always driving fast, having fun etc.
What should I switch to now?

I used liquiMoly and have switched to 5w40 Shell Rotella T6
stands up against burning/consumption better IMO.. mobile1 is **** IMO stopped using it years ago.. Motul I find is under liquiMoly
T6 the merc's like best IMO, I'll.put up with some Oil Friction drag over going for 0w40 mileage oil

Nope.. I've seen it burn on the dip stick with my own eyes between oil changes, and its overpriced..Motul did the exact same.. had to add a quart after 5000kms.. I have yet to add a quart on the T6 and I am at my 10,000kms I change oil at, it may be down 3 ticks on the dip stick.. but to me that is a victory.. result were the same in my 2005 cdi smartCar🤔

AmSoil 5W40
My E63S wagon burned about a quart of oil every 3-4k miles with about 30k miles on the odo. Since then it’s been on AmSoil 5W40 and hengst synthetic filters, and has ceased burning oil between changes. At 90k miles and still running Very strong!
FWIW I had a discussion with a master tech about intake valve carbon buildup on direct injection cars…he shared that the best way to combat this buildup is frequent oil changes!
