Heresy - tire size
this will sound like heresy, but I want to know if I can downsize my tires from the 315/30/19 and 265/35/19 to the stock 285 and 255's without significant problem. I have a 2012 CLS63 with PP. Road noise is horrible and more important than absolute handling. Any intel? Thanks.

2012 CLS63
I'm running a 305 rear and 255 in front if that helps......didn't know a 315 could go on our cars

am the 2nd owner. Seems like the original owner upsized the originals. I may try the 255 and 285s. The road noise is a lot more than I would've expected but dealership insists that's what it is. Thanks

They can be noisy. I would try swapping out to a smoother tire, something that's quieter. Even if you go smaller, a noisy tire will be noisy.
Are they wearing smooth? These cars have a habit of chewing up tires and edge wear/feathering makes them noisy. Also if the rims are bent or the tires are out of balance, they will cup and get noisier.

Well, not to beat a dead horse, but in the last 48 hours I noted that the inner margin of both fronts are separating and belts visible. Couldn't see this until wife turned the wheel hard. Probably the culprit I'm thinking, thankfully they didn't separate at speed.
Now the question for the group - for QUIET tires, grip much less important as I drive around town mostly, any recommendations? I'm seeing the Pilot Super Sports wear quick. Continental ControlContact Sport AS have good ratings on Audi's and BMWs. Anyone have any input?
Thanks!

Research TireRack's comments on Conti DW or DWS. I thought it mentioned the attributes you are seeking when testing DW/DWS. Do check it out--don't just take my words for it, though.
