Reverse Lighting Options?

I have a 15 CLS63 and one of the things that bugs me is the reverse camera quality at night. In the daytime it’s really clear. But at night especially if it’s pitch black you can barely see if anything is behind you. It’s nowhere near as clear and well lit as my wife’s 2020 GLC Coupe.

Was wondering if anyone had tried changing the reverse lights or any other solution to make it brighter/clearer.....besides the display setting.

I am considering mounting some type of lights on the bottom rear (under the diffuser and hidden) that turn on with the reverse lights.....not fast and furious style...only turn on when reversing. Anyone attempt something like this? I don’t know or think it’s possible to upgrade the camera (prob really complicated with stitching the 360 image together). Looking for a solution that’s not more than a couple hundred bucks if possible.

haha yeah I feel like there’s less time to do things even tho everything is closed. I haven’t driven my car much at night lately because there’s no where really to go anymore. Let me know if you notice much of a difference once u swap. Are u changing it out for the same reason?

I wrote this post because I was about to tint my tail light and thought if I already hate the quality I’m probably not gonna be able to see crap afterwards.
I dunno if I just got used to the camera but last night it didn’t seem as bad as I remembered it to be. And surprisingly it wasn’t that bad after the tint(Lightly smoked). One thought I had was to find some light bar that would kinda fit where the Euro rear fog lights are. That turns on when the car shifts to reverse.

if we're honest....the rear camera quality on our cars really, really stinks. at least it does with mine...a 2012. bad picture, bad angle....all bad. im amazed/pissed that the cheap rearview cam i bought for my daily Civic is lightyears better than the one i have on the Merc.

but yeah...i bought the LED's for better lighting and...also...for looks. told ya that i stink. hahahaha

Yah some things surprise me that other brands do better than Mercedes. The camera angle is horrible, Someone once told me something like Americans want to use their camera/sensors anytime in reverse (ie backing down the driveway) where as Germans tend to use it only for parking. And that’s why it’s calibrated the way it is.

I woulda expected more people to raise this, Ive only seen a couple posts for other platforms. One other thing I try to do in between washes is wipe down the camera lenses (especially in the winter).
