CLS63 w/ DP + Tune exhaust noise. Is this normal?
Hello, im trying to buy a cls63 right now but the sound of the exhaust is throwing me off. The car has downpipes, tune, no res, just stock mufflers. At idle the exhaust sounds off to me. I cant tell if its just how they are with this setup or if somethings wrong with it. The sound from the exhaust sounds like a rattle or like when a valved exhaust is closed and you can hear the exhaust hitting the valves, sounds like its puttering. Im not sure how to describe it other than that, it just doesnt sound right to me. I linked a youtube vid of another car with a similar setup that makes the same noise. In the vid its between 1:10 and 1:14 when the car is idling. Its not the turbo whistle but just the sound of the exhaust itself. Seems to be at idle when the car is warmed up. Any help is appreciated, ty all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUR1...9gu9rIFnuWmZoE

Coming from a similar setup on my CLS63 with Blackboost intakes and downpipes + tune, I'm not hearing anything that sounds abnormal in the video. I think that idle puttering after the warmup is expected.

Sounds normal to me too. The mufflers are going to make a difference though. My CLS550 is tuned but with no downpipes, no mufflers, and no resonators. Only the 2 cats are left. When I first had the exhaust done, they left one pair of the 2 pairs of mufflers on. Taking them off made a difference.

by difference do you mean in changing the weird puttering or just making it even louder? They sound pretty good with the stock mufflers on, its just the weird noise at idle that i was iffy on

Taking out the mufflers didn't make it putter louder. It does sound odd at first, but it's normal. When I'm at WOT is when it's loud. I thought that the putter was weird too, like it doesn't even sound like a V8,

it 100% sounds weird lol. luckily its only at idle. Ive seen setups that dont have it though, so im also trying to figure out how to stop it. This is the sound im after
. Its the brabus exhaust but it seems like they did downpipes too cuz its a lot louder than just the exhaust

Yeah the downpipes make a difference in the sound. Mine sounds like that on cold start, but after it's warmed up it putters lol. But that sound is the reason that I got rid of the mufflers and resonators. I'm in Cali and I need my cats, otherwise I would have probably done downpipes. You can't find them here because you still have to pass smog. You could probably do that if you found a shop that would hook you up. But it's alot harder now than it used to be a long time ago.

I can dream lol. I have a friend with a tuned RS7 that like 750HP or something ridiculous like that. He's running downpipes but I didn't ask him what he does about smog. It'd be just my luck to get caught lol.
