Just in

Just received my Obsidian black CLS55 today. Believe to be first in Western canada. Parktronic, sunshade COMMAND only. very basic. Will post pics tomorrow and will give impression (compare with my W211 E55 which I traded).
Need group advice: Should I leave front plate holder off and risk getting ticketed for a cleaner look, or put the plates on??

No plates. I've been lucky (knocking on wood) to have had cars without plates for many years w/o a ticket. Congrats on your car!

Absolutely no plates on the front. Its worth a ticket IMO. If you get a ticket, just double sided tape a plate on for the inspection. Works for me. The front end is too pretty to ruin with a plate. Congrats on the car, pics?

Took the car out today for the first time. WOW!! It handles much better than the W211 E55. Wonder if its due to the wider track, larger tires or lower suspension or a combo of all. But definitely handles better around the curves vs. the W211. Throttle response is almost the same, but seem to feel slower than the W211 E55. I had a larger air intake on the E55 (S class intake) but that is such a small mod that I do not think it will make any differences.

One thing that really bugs me about the W219 is that there are these plastic laminate on the lower body by the rear doors and the rear quaterpanel. Sort of like the old Porsche 911. Really ugly. Wonder if they will discolor with time. Wonder if I can take them out now before there is a color difference. But if I rip them out, will there be a full paint finish underneath??

Will try to post pics tomorrow will daylight

You wont have a problem with the paint if you remove the laminate, its not going to rip off with the strips. I would think they are there to protect the paint, its likely an area of the body that is prone to damage from rocks and debris kicked up by the tires. Make sure you want them off before you play with them.

Looking forward to some pics!

Leave the front bracket off, it ruins the look and lines of the CLS5. I know what you mean about the plastic things, I had my car waxed last weekend and it left some wax on around the edges of them. It does feel a bit slower to me too compared to my E55. Maybe b/c it needs to loosen up first and have the engine broken in...at least I hope.

Congrats on your car!

Looks great! I considered black as well. Since my car is a daily driver and I am **** about keeping it clean, I stuck with silver.

Those laminates are chip protectors. I'd leave them on if I were you. They aren't as noticeable on silver -

Are you changing wheels or leaving the stockers on?

The pics are taken today (Mar 5). I live in vancouver and its about 50F out today.

I probably will leave the laminate on, but I am kinda annoyed that is one of the things I overlooked before buying the car, but hey, how can you tell! In the 911's they have really wide fenders and i can understand why they have it, but in the C219, its not that wide. But anyway, its probably better than the SLR, I heard that the exhaust can generate so much heat on city driving (boulavard cruising) that it can bubble the paint finish (an MB tech told me)

To Redlinerobert. The CLS55 actually handle almost as good as the 996-C4S, almost...Much better than the W211-E55
