2006 CLS 55
Reload

Today is the first day that my CLS 55 was trouble free -- that accomplished by five visits to my dealer's service department in fewer than 2000 miles of driving. And so I celebrated: I placed an order for a new, upgraded CLS 55, and with the provisio that it must be manufactured prior to the shift to the 6.3 liter engine.

My current car is Iridium Silver with the Ash interior and most options except Distronic and Keyless Go.

The one I just ordered is the Designo Mystic White. Options include the Performance Package (what is this 18" wheels nonsense?), Lighting Package, Premium Package, Parktronic, Tire Monitoring, Electronic Trunk Closer, Sirius Satellite Radio, and the Voice Control System.

For those who are curious, Netstar prices this vehicle at just over $111,000.

Question

I noticed you are not ordering Distronic. Seems not to many do. Curious why not??

Why no Distronic?

In all my years of driving, I have never used any type of cruise control. To me, Distronic is a variety of that, and so I have no use for it, either. Nonetheless, I would find (as I understand the 2007 S Class will have) a drifting to another lane monitor useful. A second useful option not yet available (and I certainly cannot understand why) would be a rear view camera with its captured image displayed on the Command II screen.

And so, I am going to go with just what I listed.

Just wondering, did you have ESP problems? My CLS55 has just 150 miles and I keep getting the error ESP headlamps, on and on. The dealer says its a sensor in the stearing and no parts available. Parts are back ordered over 30 days. But other than that the car is great.

I never used cruise either until I got a car with Distronic. It makes driving easy.... regular cruise is nothing but a pain. Plus on more than one occasion it has alerted me to a possible accident about to happen because it monitors what is around you and beeps if something is not right.... I have been on distronic when some moron had cut into my lane... the dash light flashes red, beeps go off, and distronic brakes HARD.... you can't really ask for more than that....

I think the Distronic is oustanding. Best technology to come along in a while...I think I'd have to compare it to good sex, once you've had it you really like it.

My ESP sensor just came on!!!! I just called Fletcher Jones in Las Vegas (they are the closest dealer to me) to get an appt. and to tell them what part they will need. They have 17 in stock. They are ready for the "problem". it is the same problem and part # for the slk's. Your dealer has dropped the ball. First time for everything, I'm happy with Fletcher-Jones Las Vegas!

Congratulations on your selection!

You're actually the first other member I met who ordered a designo-CLS. This Mystic-White color must be awesome, especially if you like lighter colors. In Germany, this color choice is even $1,200 more than my "regular" designo-paint, so it MUST be something special.

Don't be concerned about this 18"-nonsense. A service-rep. at MBusa confirmed that we will get the described 19"-wheels and those 18" would be a kind of "no cost option" (have no idea how that would match ) but he said "if you order 030 performance pack, you get the 19" two-piece Style IV wheels".

You HAVE TO post some pics of that color as soon as you get your car, I MUST see it. :v
