Age old question...how many were made?

I see this question asked in almost all the AMG forums, so I figured I would pose it here. The only catch is that noone ever seems to know the real answer. Just how many 2006 CLS55's are or will be made? MB must know, but do they publish this kind of info?
I bet it is alot more than people think.

Are they going to limit them to a certain number?

Drives Slowly
This sounds a bit low, but this is from the AMG site:

AMG models are special, limited production vehicles. Production and sales vary by model, but annual sales of approximately 1,000 for each model are typical, unless a model is in extremely high demand. In 2001, approximately 18,700 AMGs were sold worldwide. About 40% of AMG models are sold in the United States.

I cannot remember the publication but I think I read that less than 1000 CLS 55's would be imported to the US in 2006.

Yes, you are correct. Otherwise AMG wouldn't be too special than it already is.
