New rotors at 137 miles!!!
Hello Chaps,
I am just new to this forum even though we have owned MBz cars for over 36 years.
The front brakes in my new CLS55 started squeaking and, last night, I left the car at the dealership for service. A few minutes ago, I was informed that the front rotors have to be replaced - they ordered "new" rotors as if the original ones were already old at 137 miles!
The service advisor mentioned that most AMG models have this problem. Any comments?
Kind regards,
Orazio

They might be grooved, look like a record, which will make them squeal like a *****. Happens alot on the 220 body s-classes. Usually the rears though

Personally, I think your service adviser sounds like an idiot

Squeaking brakes
The dealership said the new rotors will be at the shop tomorrow. Nevertheless, I will inquire with the mechanic who is working on the car, not with the service advisor, why did they decide to replace the rotors and will keep you posted.

Regards,
My friends family owns a Benz dealership and he has told me their service dept does things like that all the time to pump up maintainance revenue. Instead of small fixes or in some cases no problems at all they order entire new parts and get paid to remove , inspect and install them. I'm sure this is common practice everywhere. 6 months ago I took my GT2 in because the linkage was a little loose when shifting. They ended up replacing the entire transmission!

On second thought
it is very hard to believe that even if the car has been sitting on the lot for a while the rotors would squeak.
My E320 was parked outside for several months - even in winter - and also when I leave it at the airport and it never squeaked. But then, it did squeak for several weeks after new rotors, pads and calipers were replaced at 105K miles.
In my opinion, nearly always a squeaking brake problem is due to a lack of anti-squeak paste on the backs of the brake pads. MB pads typically have shims on the back of the pads for this purpose. The shims have holes that are supposed to be filled with anti-squeak paste, which is really just a commercially available copper-based neversize compound.

471 miles and still squealing!!!
Chaps,
Two weeks after my car's four rotors and pads were replaced it started squealing again. Last Tuesday the car went back to the shop. A senior shop foreman tested the car and could not duplicate the squealing.
The service advisor explaination was that "European cars have soft brakes which tend to gather rust and therefore they squeal." This flies in the face of any available knowledge. I had European cars exclusively - Peugeot, Fiat, Alfa, Audi, Ferrari, Citroën and Maserati. The only car I had that squealed constantly was my 1993 348ts Speciale. My cousin's 355F1 did squeal a lot too but my 456GT does not squeal at all. The Maserati Zagato Spyder I sold last month, with all its annoying shortcomings, did not squeal either. My ex-1997 S600C never squealed, my '95 E320 does not squeal.
Mercedes Benz USA is aware of the problem and wrote reports about it. Their advise is to keep taking the car back to the shop.
Yesterday, we experienced a piercing squeal several times, braking softly, braking hardly, you name it.
Even though the dealer has been very cooperative and gives us loaners it cost us time and money to take the car to the shop.
Rather than talking to the Mercedes Benz people over the phone I will send them a well documented letter via Fedex on Monday.
The state of Virginia has, like several other states, the lemon law, three strikes for the same problem and you can reject the car. We really like the car but at this point I am frustrated and don't know what to do.
Kind regards,
Orazio

MB brake squeal has been a problem on my 04 500 since new, pads and rotors replaced and squeal is back. MB does not want to replace them again.
This is a well known issue within MB and on many different models, some cars of the same model squeal and others don't...very annoying and embarrassing.

i had similar screaming brake problems on my 2003 s type R, with its big fat brembos'. dealer replaced immediately. apparently, this is not uncommon with jaguars (see www.thelurch.com if you've been entertaining purchasing a jag...). i just crossed the 1000 mi. break-in barrier (hooray!!!) in my new e55T and haven't had any brake issues of the sort you're describing; i hope to remain as lucky going forward!
good luck with the fix.

my brakes squeeked exactly like yours did at about 300 miles. When they ordered me new rotors I continued to use the car. After about 1500 miles (took 3 weeks to get the new rotors since this was early on - Feb this year) and they were only available from Germany. Anyhow, after 1500 miles, no more squeek......yet. Now I have 3500 miles and nothin yet.
Just thought I'd advise....
