conti's vs. ps2's

i'm thinking of getting new shoes for my baby. can i have people's opinion on what tire to get. should i go w/ conti's which are 305's in the rear or michelin ps2's which are 295's in the rear. i saw the two tires side by side...and the 305's sure look yummy...

you arent really going to notice the difference unless u take the car to the track. and if u do track the car then why use 20s?
for driving on the street even aggressively either is fine. if you are pushing so far as to notice the difference then you are probably should be doing some laps on the track.

i went with the contis coz i wanted 305s in the rear.

I have PS2's on my wifes CLK 430 and have had horrible balancing problems with them. They have been balanced about 6 times with little long term fix. In addition the outer most tread of the front tires wear very quickly even with a newly aligned front and rear end.

I must admit the tires are quiet and sticky.

Have your learned anything about Michelin doing anything for customers experiencing the balancing problem?

Burned through the Contis on my E55 in 8,000 miles. Tires were OK but were very noisy at the end of their life. Had a lot of fun in those last miles, practicing my launches in Dyno mode, peeling out from the the lights and tossing it sideways at every corner. When I took them off the rears were toast - fronts were still good but very noisy, so changed them too.

I switched over to PS2's and noticed an immediate improvement over the Contis - obviously they are much quieter than the Contis (but I cannot say for sure that they are quieter than the Contis were when new). But they are much much sticker than the Contis.

I only have 1,000 miles on them and I have had no balancing issues at all - in fact there is far less sterring wheel shimmy than with the Contis.

Ran 12.5 @ 114mph on my Contis at Moroso with the ESP on, just stomping the gas pedal. I will do the same test with the PS2's as soon as the temp in Florida gets into the 70's, and will report the results

regards

Siswati

Ive heard plenty of stories between the two. funny how Tire rack has the PS2 ranked near the top while the Conti's are around 10 or so. I have the Conti's on my car for a bit and honestly it was suprising how comfortable they were, the CLS is very quiet car i dont think you will have that much noise coming from the tires. and the Conti's are hell of a lot cheaper than the PS2's.

I had an issue with balancing my PS2's on my CLS500 and finally found a very good wheel/tire company in Seattle by the name of Fosters Wheel Service that fixed my problem. They tire-wheel matched the tires by rotating the tire on the wheel and then finally balanced the set.

These PS'2 are great. I swapped out my Conti's as soon as I got the car.
