CLS55 or E55

Well, I have a dilemma. I have an 05 E55 and I am quite happy with it. I am making plans for a new car. I am unsure if I want another E55 or make the move to the CLS. If I get a CLS, I will get the 030 performance package. That option makes me lean towards the CLS.

I would appreciate it very much if you guys with experience with both cars could share some of your thoughts/opinions, etc. I am wondering how they compare in ride, drive, performance, handing, comfort, etc. Also, do you have any issues with the back seat? Some people say that there is not as much room there as in the E. Is that a problem? Thanks in advance.

From speaking with Rob Allen there is a good probability that the E will have the 030 perf. package. Why are you thinking of getting rid of an '05 already? Especially if you replace it with another E

It will still be a long time before people are used to seeing a cls55.

You and I know how sweet the E55 is but it does not attract the attention the cls does. It is a head snapper
Trust me on this one.

I had a new 01 E55 and loved the car, hated the problems.
Only kept it for a year.

The cls seems light years ahead. I love this car
If you don't want your car to draw attention... don't get a cls55

as far as room in the back seat?

Good point. I won't get rid of my car for another E exactly the same. I might consider an E63 with the body refresh when that happens. I was mainly looking for a side-by-side comparison from someone who has owned both.

I have owned a 94 E 500 (the first performance E class), a99 E55, an '03 CL 55, and now a CLS 55, with Kleemann LSD and Stage 1 as well a other modifications. The CLS is certianly nimbler that the CL and of course must faster with much more torque (and hp) than an 99 E 55. Appearance wise the CLS is hands down the most beautiful sedan on the road, Maserati & Bently notwithstanding. I still wonder why you are gettng rid of a 05 E 55. Is there something wrong with it? What mods have you installed in it, if any?

The E was involved in a minor accident. I will wait until the repairs are finished to make a decision in whether or not to keep it. I just have an uneasy feeling about it right now. But, like I said, it was minor and it will most likely turn out OK and I will keep it. On the other hand, if I have a feeling of remorse with the car, then I will make plans to get something else. Right now, I just hope everything comes out OK.

Be like me. Keep the E55 and get the CLS55 with 030 too hahah. Though I may trade the E55 in for an E63 and 030 if it happens.

Good idea. I drove a CLS55 today. It was just a short demo drive, so I didn't come to any conclusions. I do like the idea of the 030 package, and I plan to get something with it in the future. If it is available in a year or 2 on the E63, then I might give it a thought. If MB won't include it on the E, then I wll most likely consider the CLS.

Congrats on your new CLS. How about giving us a comparison write up after you get a little experience with it? I am sure a lot of members here would like to know how they compare. Thanks.
