LV Red Rock CC: Black CLS55 raced two Porsche Turbos?
Hi guys,
Is there anyone here that drives a black CLS55 in the Red Rock Country Club area?
I was at Starbucks hanging out with some friends and I overheard a couple of guys talking about some races they had with a black CLS55 with possibly a modified exhaust. The guy with a black 996 turbo said the CLS he raced stayed up with him well over 100 going down Sahara and was extremely impressed by the AMG.
There was another guy there with apparently a modified 911 turbo who thought he may have raced the same burly sounding CLS55 on Sahara, since the CLS he raced was also headed towards Red Rock. But he said he destroyed the CLS coming from behind and putting quote "numerous buslengths" on the Mercedes. He did say the CLS55 had a awesome sounding exhaust and thought it might have been modified.
I am considering getting either CLS55 or the new M5 to replace my old M5, so you can imagine I have a lot of interest on this topic.
Anyone here by chance?
Tony

It wasn't me but...
I had an 03 M5. I loved the car. I like the CLS55 way more. Granted I haven't drove the new M5 but the I-drive is enough to keep me out of it for now.
In a straight line a turbo just isn't going to put "numerous buslengths" on the cls. And I had a 04 Turbo Cab. Give me the cls55 any day
Power - Luxury - Looks = CLS55

Thanks for the reply. I plan to start a thread discussing the cars I am considering replacing my M5 with. Primarily I am looking at used RS6, E55, CLS55 or an e60 M5. I love my current M5, but it's been 4 years, so it's time for a change. I want to make the right choice that will satisfy me for the next 4 years.

I have raced two 996 turbos and pulled on them both times. I do have the K1 mod but by both results I think stock to stock they will be very close. The 996 has the launch advantage but the 55's seemless lower end makes up for it when the 996 has to deal with shifting with a very short 1st gear. The point and shoot ability of the 55 is amazing.
So far I have raced a C6 Z06, F430 and 360, 996TT and SRT10 Viper and beat them all except the F430 which was nose to nose. I would opt for the CLS55 vs the M5 on the luxury, looks, performance, ride and low cost mod options. Still on the lookout for an M5 to race. I dont see many even in LA.

Could it have been a Brabus? Was having lunch at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza on W Sahara and a guy pulled up in a Black Brabus CLS55.Had a lengthy conversation with him which lasted all of about 30 seconds.
Have also seen it on our street along with about every other make of car out there. (Live by the crazy palace just off Sahara/Jones. It can be a car show on our street at times)Parisian Palace

Stock or modded
I definitely heard the guy with the turbo that could not pull on the CLS55 say his car was stock.
The other turbo owner that boasted putting buslengths on the Benz appeared to have a fairly modified car including racing seats and a roll cage. I also heard the guy say he smoked a C6 Z06, but who knows.
Do you guys think the Brabus guy is the one who tangled with these turbos? Does he live near Red Rock?
By the way, how much extra hp can added to the CLS55 by just adding bolt ons and for how much?
Thanks

What engine modifications make up the Brabus kit? How much power and torque? And most importantly, roughly how much money?
By the way, is this gentlemen on this board? I was just curious to hear his experience with these two turbos.
Thanks

What is the stock rwhp for the AMG 55's? Has anyone run one a K2 modded 55 at the dragstrip by chance? I am just curious how much of an improvement the K2 makes in the real world.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I live in Vegas and will be taking my 2004 E55 K2 to the track sometime next month. Should run 11.6-11.8 @ 122. Stock I believe they are running right around 12.5-.7 @ 114-115 here in Vegas.

a few...
A C6 Z06 should NOT lose to a CLS 55. I have raced them both, and the Z06 has a nice lead up to 120 by a good 4 car lengths, and then it gets ugly real fast...
A modified one, maybe if the driver didn't know what he is doing, but then again it's not that hard to drive a Z06 from a roll, assuming it was from a roll. The CLS weighs a LOT more and is only putting down maybe 50 whp more...right...

Quite often the driver makes all the difference. Going by these stats from another post, the Z06 should be able to smoke the CLS55 when driven properly. Also included is a link to a Modded and stock Z06 running VERY low 11s.
