Brakes on cls55 vs 63
It looks as if the new composite brakes will be 6 piston vs our 8 piston. there is some discussion about one system vs the other here - https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...iston+6-piston
I wonder if its because the rotors of the 6 piston are lighter and they can get away with 6 vs 8.... also, on the cls55 030 package are the calipers 6 or 8 piston? I wonder if the composite rotor for either the 030 or the 63 are directly compatible with the cls55 and when the time comes to service brakes, if this would be a 'cheap at the time' mod to update the car. Thoughts?

Dogshine - The CLS55-030 front Rotors are 15" in Dia. and the Calipers are 8 Piston and these Calipers and the Rotors would have to be installed as a system on a CLS55 because of the larger Dia. 030 Rotors. - Bob

From what I have heard....it's a new twin sliding caliper design. Finally someone DID it. Calipers sliding in from both sides.....leave it to Benz.
Must be just friggin incredible......the difference.
A new twin sliding calliper is used for the front brakes, the kind of innovation people have come to expect from AMG. This new, unique technology combines the advantages of a floating-calliper brake – lower heat transfer to the brake fluid and significantly improved ride comfort due to the way the brake pads are located – with the performance of a large fixed-calliper brake. At the rear a large sliding frame-type calliper provides the braking. Composite brake discs at the front and rear with a diameter of 390 and 365 millimetres respectively ensure the shortest stopping distances, remarkable strength and outstanding sensitivity.
