Euro COMAND
I just swapped out the stock COMAND unit for the BE-7039 euro version. Took about an hour and was very easy. I swapped some of the buttons with the USA version to keep the "stock" look, changed menu language to English, converted the startup logo from Mercedes-Benz to AMG, disabled driver distractions, enabled all DVD regions, and enabled MP3.
And... it works perfectly! RDS shows text info from CDs and radio stations. Navigation works. DVD-in-dash is awesome for concert videos. The picture on the COMAND display is damn good, and the Harmon Kardon Logic7 sounds fantastic -- much better in fact than with CDs!!
I got the BE-7039 for about $600 delivered from Ebay seller "naviandbmwparts" out of Lithuania. He sent EMS tracking info the day it shipped, and it arrived about a week later. It was very well packed and in as-new condition. I highly recommend this seller if you are wanting a Euro COMAND unit, price was half of what MBdoctor charges for the exact same item, and he took Paypal. Shipping cost and time were about the same, EMS from Lithuania versus UPS Ground from NYC.

PS -- from what I understand DVD video and satellite radio are not mutually exclusive on this unit, although changing between them is cumbersome, requiring changing the software from EU to USA and rebooting.

Hey guys, I'm also pursuing this euro dvd thing, but also wanting the tv tuner. Seller (prob. same one you sent me to Kevin) says that he has the one that would do what I want (dvds as well as tv tuner) but says this unit is has these part numbers:

Will fit to Mercedes W211 E-Class and Mercedes CLS
Can any of you give me a heads up on these numbers? Hey Bro, I do know that my 7039 isn't setup for a TV Tuner,
I'm not sure about the other part numbers, the on thing I do know that it needs to have the VSS connectors (Video Schnitt Stelle)... plug in the back in order for the TV tuner to connect to the comand.
Auction # 140014781003 on ebay.
Also if you get the TV tuner, you want to get the new digital one, not the older analog. Hope this helps

Thanks Kevin...yeah the dreaded 5-3-7...If only one can do away with safety warning which effectively shortens the AMG logo's onscreen time. Anyways, we're driving 100K cars, what the hell are we complaining about eh? Perspectives....

isnt there only 1 model? I sent the seller asking the manufacturing date, she provided me with a date of 2005. thats all the info i have.
