Having raced both at the drag strip there are some obvious differences

Best in my E55 12.169 (done in perfect cool conditions)
best in my CLS55 12.561 (done in poor hot humid conditions)

I use identical launch technique with both cars

Its not so much the rotational mass of the wheels and it is also not so much a factor of the higher drag coefficient (cd) which does come into play as the car speed gets higher

But the large part of the difference at the drag strip can be attributed to the tire size (which is a factor of wheel size). The lower profile sidewall of the 19" tire cannot absorb and retain the lauch energy the way that the 18" tire can. Lower profile tires might be better on the twisties but they really hurt you on the drag strip

My best 60ft with the stock 18" contis on the E55 was 1.769 (drag is not a factor at this speed)
My best 60ft with the stock 19" PS2's on my CLS55 is 1.912 (which is the fastest 60ft time on dragtimes for a CLS55)

So the CLS is losing around .15 seconds on the launch even before they have got to speed. And then the cd comes into play

I am still hping to get into the 12.3's with my stick CLS55 as the weather here in Florida starts to cool off.

Siswati,

I have the rear-end shot of your car as my screen saver. Great photography.

Just stirring up the dust over here.

This is why MB offers both, the styling appeals to two different crowds. Personally I would take a black CLS AMG with the strut grill but that isn't to say I don't want dragonAMG's car, that thing looks nasty and the mocha black on Kev04C320's car is awesome. In the end both are sick, fast, and if you mod them the limits are endless.

difference is very minimal... it will come down to reaction time.

I would not loose sleep over it.

I think the E is the better looking car.

There isn't a lot between them performance wise, but E55 is just pure understated class.

I love the E class but when I was purchasing my car 6 months ago the new shape E was not available. Therefore I went with the CLS. I think the new e63 is too sexy but the old e55 is a bit outdated since it has been around since 2003.

I am 5'9" and have short legs. I don't have to move my seat forward for my grand daughters, ages 6 & 8, to ride in the back seat.

LOL!! I always liked the E though I must admit. In stock form it does look a bit too civilian like. But that I think thats the coolest part. takes the phrase wolf in sheeps clothing to a whole new level. The cls is pure sex on wheels with the ***** to back it up.

Hm-m-m-m-m-m sounds like a case of long legs and short upper-body....

I'm just having fun here guys........the CLS is a sexy beast!!!
Truth be told....if the performance of the CLS was as good as our E's, I' would have considered one!.......Sat in one though and had to hunch my back not to hit the headliner....I'de have a sore neck in 5 minutes that way
Why not a little more headroom..

Usually, when you have to tell someone something's funny.......it ain't.

I bet you tell jokes then laugh heartily at the end.
