Why is e55 so much quicker then cls55?

I fail to see the reason why. They say the cls is little heavier. Could it be 200lbs more? Ecu pulling out timing, fuel, or both? The quickest stock cls55 has run a 12.50 )correct me if im wrong) And I have heard of numerous e55s running 12.0-12.1. Why is there such a huge gap between the 2? Im sure im not the only one who has asked this before. Can someone shed some light on this subject?

weight...
also weight transfer might have something to do with it, if the e suspension is softer it will transfer more weight to the rear providing better traction

is the gearing the same?

also...

the wheels on the cls are heavier, rotational mass counts for a lot

The main difference is the wheel size. The weight difference is negligable compared to this. Bigger is rarely better when it comes to wheels and performace.

It all depends on the launch in my opinion. I'd like to see a experienced driver run a CLS and E, then swap cars and see what happens.

Sorry, that comments was not directed towards you. A lot of my friends were saying how the CLS looked "sleeker and more streamlined" than the E.

haha ok thanks for clarifying.

I totally forgot to mention the wheels. Yes I agree a smaller wheel makes a very noticeable difference. I have yet to see someone put on a set of stock E55 wheels all around and go to the track. That should change gearing and help in the 1/4. How much heavier is the cls vs E?

Since this is your first post, we'll chalk this little brainfart up to inexperience, but check out the multiple thousands of timeslips posted on this board and at dragtimes.com and you'll see that the CLS is, in fact, not quite as fast as the E55. Its heavier, has more drag, and bigger wheels. Your friend probably lost because he has no clue how to drive the thing yet. It takes a loooong time to learn to launch that car.

Its okay to be sad that your car looks like a grandma car. But lets be honest, the performance differences are not enough to matter to anyone who cares about performance and tunes their car with aftermarket parts anyways.

It's kind of embarrassing when "grandma's car" puts you in your place.

FYI: tuned or untuned the E55 is significantly faster than the girlyman CLS55.

Why is the CLS slower???................

Because the car was made for guys 5'8" tall and their short legs just can't run fast enough to get the car down the 1/4mi track as fast as us 6'2' guys in our E's

I see why my grandma picked E-class over CLS

But all jokes aside, both cars are very fast, dont need to dis each other..
and CLS does look mean with this..
