The concept is definitely interesting.
Here are some pros:
1. Obviously the appearance, 14'' Brembos looked small, I would imagine even 16'' APRacing would not quite fill the wheel.
2. Wheel weight and therefore improvement in handling, with a center made from plastic it should reduce wheel weight by around 10-15 lbs, depending on wheel size.
Cons:
1. Strength, I did not talk to the guys at the show, but my understanding that crash testing to get DOT approval is the works.
2. Longevity - How long will stay clear? What effect brake dust and sunlight will have on it.

(IMHO) a chrome lip would look much better, just like the one on display. Did you see the rims on that motorcycle infront of the S. I think those wheels may work out better on a bike then a car in terms of durability and aesthetics. Anyone get a price quote on these?

The Glass Rim on the S550 has a chrome lip also. I think the S550 pictures are dark. Mine were also.

Besides brake cooling, to clean the wheels you need to take them off and clean the inside from brake dust! As we all know Mercedes Brake dust sucks and not many people are willing to take there wheels off for every wash.
Other then that, i think its a pretty cool idea, great for a show car if you have nice brakes to display, its kinda like a showcase for your brakes!
