yeah the build quality was quite bad. alot of plastic. very differant materials used. the rear hatch flexed alot. defiantly cant compare it to my 360..but then again the FURD is a 100k cheaper...
There was an article a while back that compared turbocharged vipers, corvettes, Ford GT to a stock Z06 (for the life of me, I can't remember the mag... I think it was Automobile?). Ford GT was modified with pulley/ecu, headers, and exhaust. I believe the Ford GT finished 2nd in the standing mile test, behind a twin turbo 1000hp viper. A twin turbo 800hp Lingfelter C6 corvette finished 3rd and had a higher speed than Ford GT. Stock Z06 was 5th I think and was something like 20 seconds slower. What I'm trying to say is that Ford GT's 550hp is nowhere near its potential. With 5,000$ in modifications, you can have 700hp if you want. That would put the GT in Ferrari Enzo territory, however, besides incredible performance, it would suck in day to day driving compared to F430 or Gallardo SE. Same thing with my turbo elise, a lot of performance but horrible quality and a pain in the *** to use daily. Ford GT does NOT even have traction control (neither does my elise), and having 700hp with engine in the back will produce a lot of oversteer if you're not careful. In the rain, it will be quite scary, I know from personal experience almost loosing control of my elise in heavy rain. Decide what you want to use the car for and then choose accordingly.

I have a GT with no problems, I have never heard anything about doors falling off. I am a member of the Ford GT Forums, and like with any new supercar, nothing is perfect, but compare to other supercars the issues have been minor and only a few people have had problems other then he early 05 issue. But It has handle by FORD, better that all my Experierce with MB or GM. Ford is very Proud of the GT, and provides care exceding all others in my opinion. Also the cost of Mod's, & care for GT will be much lower then even a MB or any supercar. If I were you, look up the GT Forum, and talk to true owner for real info. This here is all speculation. I hear this, I heard that, it's all BS. Go straight to the horses month, and get the really info.

I owned a Z06 & I have GT, STOCK for STOCK, It's a drivers race, very close and it would come down to tenths. MOD FOR MOD, the GT will pull head of Z06, no doubt. The GT can have great gains for very cheap. Besides we are talking apple and oranges. The GT is supercar that will be worth something someday, it has value, were a Z06 is great sportcar and bargin, but it a production car (about 6500-7K a year) and there will be many of them so they well be all over the place, not only that but 98% of the people think its C6 because they look so similiar. I think 20 years from now, the GT will be worth well above 200k, were a Z06 will be worth south of 10k. Car aren't investment, but still worth mentioning.

My 2 cents

Do you know the total production numbers of the GT? Just curious.

I think the Ford GT is a sick ride! Probably the only American car I like...I think it is the "WOW" factor. I could care less about the Ford logo, the car is amazing for the price GO FOR IT!

Well had the test drive last week in the GT. I have to say I was not impressed with the power and when I left in my CLS I could swear my benz packed more punch (modded) than the GT. That was the only negative .

As far as looks the car is a serious looker. I have not seen any at all in the black color and man did this car look great. The drive is fantastic too. Glued to the road and felt very stable with a low rumble to it.

To be honest I am really torn. My tech said he can put it just under 700hp with a few low cost mods and I think that would be maditory as for me stock the GT is under powered for my liking. And I'm pretty sure with anything close to 700hp and being 3300lbs it would be an absolute rocket ship. I have to decide by Monday.

Okay that is by far the nicest looking GT I have ever seen. With that said, AMGFREAK has a point. You would be downgrading as far as I am concerned. And I would be very suspect of an inexpensive mod that gives you a HUGE change. WHat is the car supposed to have stock?
Anyway, remember the grass looks greener there now but you'll miss your CLS the first night.

HP numbers are right on. Car stock is 550hp and gains over 100hp from just a pulley and ECU tune. I have seen the dynos.

Have you considered a C6 Z06? Those are truly quick cars for the money. If desire even more punch, a C6Z is even cheaper/easier to mod than the GT.

Get the GT....if you want an F-150 engine with a supercharger on it. Just another example of an American Garbage can.

Okay so how much $$$ is this thing anyway if you don't mind? And how much is the relatively inexpensive mod?

"Car and Driver magazine test driver Larry Webster drove a Ford GT from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Car and Driver also recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 128 mph. In the same test, Ferrari’s $193,000 Challenge Stradale took four seconds to reach 60 mph and was 0.8 second and 13 mph slower through the quarter-mile.

"It wasn't even a contest," wrote Webster. "The Ford GT so completely dusted off its two highly recognized competitors (the Ferrari Stradale and Porsche 911 GT3) that if we wanted to make this a real challenge, we would have had to go way up the 'supercar' price ladder . . ."

If the ford gt dusted off a Stradale and a GT3 with a supercharged F-150 engine. Sign me up for a new truck

Go for the Ford GT. It doesn't have the production quality of our AMG's but its sexy as hell and it embarrased Ferrari and Porsche on the race track.

For For The Gt

I have the GT, CLS55, and sold my Z06. They are all great cars, but the GT is one of a kind. The Z06 is as fast, it's a driver race. The car with the better driver will win. The CLS55 is just another Luxury car with some power. The GT is supercar in all catagories. Also the GT one day will be more valuable were the CLS & Z06(to many in production) will be long gone worthless, like other cars, but the GT has a great history, and great future. The CLS & Z06 will be replace. There is no replacement for the GT. Sorry, just my opinion.

It only cost 8K for an extra 175 bhp and it will still be smog legal in CA.

The GT is a serious car.

E55 AMG + Mustang GT
I would do it! I love the way the GT looks, and as mentioned its cheap to mod and you get HUGE gains. The reason is that like the 5.5k, its a supercharged 5.4L V8, so changing out a pulley and ecu will increase the boost, and hence the big gain. The reason why its cheap is because its a ford, not saying there's anything wrong with a ford, but everything is always OVERPRICED for Mercedes. In fact, I don't know why so many people talk smack about Ford's quality... I have two SUV's from Ford that I've had for a few years now, and have not had a single problem with either one.

If you decide to pass on it on monday, the line starts behind me.
If you decide to get it on monday, the line to get your wheels starts behind me. :-)

You have 1 chance to do it, most likely... So get it. You can go back and get a CLS anytime.

Bunch of Ford haters..... By the way, my K2 CLS couldnt hang with my GT in a straight line or in turns. Some silly thing called power to weight ratio......
