22.1 mpg !!!

Okay so last night after a bit of aggro driving I decided to reset the meters and measure the best mileage I could get in my 63 if I drove it like an old man. Well i am AMAZED and happy to report that my 25 mile drive resulted in a 22.1 mpg.

Transmission in C
Sports II setting
AC off
Sunroof in the vent (up) position
Windows closed
Going mostly around 75 and just barely touching the gas pedal.

And the worst it gets (as I found out yesterday) is 9.1 mpg.

Really, at the end of the day it depends where you live and how much you drive. I mostly put on highway miles...so my 6k average is 18mpg. If you do mostly stop-n-go as in the city, you'll be just like any other car.

Does the supercharger help with the gas mileage?

The C55's is horrible.

And that was going to be my first question I asked you! Good luck getting that with a 55 or 63. Actually I always felt that for a car this fast, 21-22 mpg was pretty damn good. Then again if you can't afford gas, get a vette (27+)

i thought that was a pic from a 63... and i was gonna say 'wow, the 63 kills the 55 in the mileage dept....'

i don't think i get much over 20 on the fwy, and around town i am in the 11's....

I don't even have a V8, or a CLS, but I get horrible mileage in the city if its stop and go. However, the more I stay on the freeway, the better my mileage gets. And by better I mean better. I'll bet that a 55/63 could get in the high 20s if you stayed on the freeway for a while. I got 29MPG on my CLK compared to the 13.9 I get in the city most the time.

I'm sure you mean well, but when you do purchase your 55 and/or 63, you will learn what kind of mileage you can get on a car that is rated at 14/20 mpg.

My point though is that my car is rated 18 city, 27 highway, and I've challenged both ratings in both fields. I'm sure it's possible to do the same with the AMGs, whether I own one or not.

Well I can tell you this, I drove it so mildly that I almost fell sleep, and it would not go past 22.1 mpg at all. In fact today I picked up my mom and went to my brothers, after filling up. By the time we got to his house (a total of 40 miles maybe) I had gone through 1/4 tank. Pretty f'd up.
But hey, if you have to ask ...
It was a pretty boring night tough, I got a Mustang and a camaro Z28 at the light and non of them was dumb enough to want to give me any play.

Holy cow dudes,
you are not gonna believe this but last night I had to make a 100 mile drive and I turned on the distronic and followed a well paced car between 65-85 with the AC turned off. I hit the mpg reset while in cruise mode to get a good idea what the best is that it could do if I just let it do it's think in 7th gear.

Over around 80 miles I averaged, ready for this? 24.7 mpg. This is a freaking economy car!!! It stayed in 7th the entire time with the rpm between 1800-2200 (65-80mph)

I have posted two blurry cell phone pictures of the cluster I took around mile 20, not the ideal photography conditions.

I think that's pretty good for that 63..... As always it all depends on how you drive.

Thats just from your mixed use: little highway, city, and speed testing . Otherwise I still get great mileage on the highway from 80-90.

So far, at least, < 11 mpg in conservative in city driving in my 55. Don't even dream of > 15 mpg (was the same in my RS6), but then again, didn't have any illusions that it would give "decent" gas mileage.
